Magic 10 may be the number of discouragement

So I'm new to all this auction stuff and am trying to follow all the rules and recommendations.  I've read tons of books, have online education and software to help.  I have tried to sell 10 things so far and nothing has sold.

This is becoming discouraging and I wonder if it really is possible to have an Ebay business or if it's just a pipe dream. This bus driver needs some encouragment.  Is this a stop sign I am sitting at?

Hosing Down the Bus

It's Monday and the kids are off to a great start.  Today I had to talk to them about making fun of each other.  Everyone says it's natural that middle-schoolers are mean to each other.  I don't buy it and I don't abide it.  We have to teach our children that it's just not acceptable to treat each other hurtfully.

There were 4 boys in the back picking on a younger kid who is always looking for a way to fit in.  I could see the hurt in his eyes.  When I excused everyone, I made the 4 sit down and listen.  If nothing else, it's a rule on my bus that we treat each other with respect.  They are still in the reward/punishment phase of development so they have to sit up front for a while.

Plus I have to hose off the bus because someone got violently ill when we arrived at school.  sigh.
I guess I'll buy the hose I have on sale at ebay unless someone outbids me!  PLEASE! http://cgi.ebay.com/50-Ft-Self-Recoil-Water-Hose_W0QQitemZ150158036988QQihZ005QQcategoryZ20541QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

My Bus Has a Name!

My bus's name is Elsie.  I don't usually give objects names but "she" seems to have called that one forth in me.  A few days ago I noticed that this bus seems to have a mind of its own.  It has quirks and needs and demands.  It occurred to me that people name their cars.  I wondered briefly what this bus's name would be if she had one.  Immediately, the name Elsie popped into my head.  I tried out a few others but Elsie seems to fit.

I am getting to know Elsie; what makes her start in the morning, how she likes to be treated.  I clean her everyday and she gets a bath once a week.  Today she needed a new headlight because her left highbeam didn't work.  Elsie runs pretty well but you can tell she is aging.  She needs oil more than most and her exterior is a bit worn.
Elsie doesn't like going up hills from a stop and will take her good ole time some days and sprint on others.  Downhills are really fun as she just wants to go WEEEE and I have to slow her down.

As I get to know her, I find I am getting attached.
I want to buy her things but the paycheck isn't so big.  I can't wait to get to work in the morning so I can drive her to pick up all the kids. I am tempted to spruce her up a bit but am reminded that she doesn't really belong to me.  In time I could be assigned another bus and Elsie will have to fend for herself with another driver.

...I'm sure there must be medication for these things...

Oh- I'm selling some stuff but have yet to sell anything on this Ebay-  Here's a cool air nailer - cause I love these things and I thought it would be fun to sell an MP3 Player.  This one is a pretty good one and the price is right...

Days of Labor for the Love of It

It's Labor Day weekend and I wonder if you folks ever feel overwhelmed by all the work it takes to make a living doing online business.  I love computers and working at home and am reading all I can to make this work.  Today I will post some items though I'm still in the buying process to earn my ratings.

But the new job I have driving a school bus has really captured my heart.  I've never been a "blue collar" worker before having always had office jobs and being a healthcare professional.  This is really fun and gives me a new perspective on the majority of the workforce in this country.  It is easy to see how hard people work doing a "job" just to get food on the table.  I feel a lot of empathy and a sense of honor working with these people doing an honest day's labor.

For me though, this is not just a job.  It's an act of love- a selfish one.  I need to give my heart a rest after caring so much for so many all of my life.  Living a life of service can suck the life out of a person no matter how "rewarding" it is.  The pay is not what motivates me as I can make in 6 hours what it takes me a week to earn as a bus driver.  This is an act of love for me so that I have more to give my family and my neighbors and my son's school and our little community.

As it turns out, my heart is going out to the kids a bit and I have to watch how much I give.  It's so natural for me to want to "help."  I want to get involved and solve things.  I want to jump in too much.  Every day I have to step aside in my heart and tell myself just to drive the bus and get them home safely.  That's my job.  I love it.

This Ebay business is an act of fun and love too.  It's a great way to meet people online and the response from you other bloggers is really heartwarming.  I will be responding to yours too as I get to understand how all this works.  Thank you for your kind remarks.  It makes me want to keep going here and really make a go of it.

Why do you do what you do?
