ARCTIC TREASURES IN ALASKA

Becoming an Outdoor Woman!

I don't know if you've heard of this program, but it's totally awesome! I just got back from a B.O.W. in Alaska weekend, held in Chickaloon, Alaska, at Victory Bible Camp. I took 4 workshops: Snowshoeing (which I'd never done before and totally loved), Fly Tying (very fun but requires lots of practice), Snowmachining (snowmobiling to most of you), which I've done before and was a blast), and GPS (very, very cool...want to buy one RIGHT NOW!!!). I also attended a workshop on Bear Safety, which, of course, is very appropos for Alaska. Very Informative! Got tons of exercise, lots of fresh air in the mountains, and didn't have to cook or wash dishes or do laundry for 3 days!!! Can't beat that! :-)

There are B.O.W. weekends and other activities in all the 50 states. Check out their websites - and get out there and try something new, while having an awesome time!

Frisky - thank you!

I've also been able to learn cross-country skiing, butchering large game, ice fishing, fly fishing, kayaking, and filleting/smoking fish in these workshops. Check them out in your own state!

cbkspa67 - Oh....they totally go together! I've been to many Bible camps during my lifetime...as a camper (as a youngster), as a camp counselor (during my college years), being a camp cook (as an adult). Bible camps are great opportunities for kids to have a very fun time; usually lots of singing, swimming, games, getting to know other kids, and having religious classes and prayer times.

Now, the Becoming An Outdoor Woman weekends are NOT religious...but this winter one happens to be traditionally held at the fabulous Victory Bible Camp in Chickaloon, Alaska. It has 2 lakes (frozen right now...awesome to run dog teams on or snowmachine on), is surrounded by gorgeous Alaskan mountains, and has an absolutely incredible, beautiful lodge!

Frisky - the really cool thing is that I can pass on the skills I learn to my kids! They are always SO excited when I come home from the B.O.W. weekends to teach them new activities!

I agree. One husky is really enough for me! Actually, I wouldn't mind one more, but my husky is a very naughty girl around the neighborhood when she has a "cohort" with her. Such as: getting into other peoples' meat (that they left frozen out in their arctic entryway), killing a chicken, etc. She's much better behaved when she is an only child.

Plus, I have 7 kids to take care of! :-)
