Did you know a scanner is a digital camera too?

One of our assignments in Advanced Photoshop was to use the school scanner to capture 3D objects. If it can fit on a scanner..it should work! This is especially helpful for small items like jewelry or flat packaged barbies...the scanner, if working properly, should uplight the product revealing clearer, close-up detail. If you have a scanner, give it a go and see if it doesn't do a better job for you!

*Tip..be sure to set the resolution to at least 300. Then you can crop the scan to the size you need, but the rule is: The higher the resolution, the more information (detail) scanned.

This is a full body shot of a doll scanned at 300

This is the same photo now cropped to show

Note the texture of the fabric!

Have fun!

Anyone Hear Of The Dimestore Fisherman..funny vacation story!

OUR FAMILY VACATION IN THE WILDS OF CANADA!
The last Twelves miles of the trip to the lagoon is a one-lane (barely even one in places) road where if you encounter oncoming traffic one of you has to back up to the last widest spot in the road!

When vacationing in Canada we stay on shore in a lagoon while the rest of our family boats out all their supplies to stay on a pointe. While on shore we meet a variety of campers coming and going.

You just never know who you'll encounter. One happened to be a Canadian guide named Renee who brought in a gentleman from Texas. This gentleman works with at-risk kids and gets them fully funded for a college education if they work with him in earnest. He combines his efforts with a Federal Judge (who could not make it this year) and in their 15 years they've had only had one wash out!

Renee also just guided for an NBA team and they made a mini documentary which will air in 2007 on a tv show: Dimestore Fisherman. He thought we could get it in, "It's popular in da States, ya know.." I should have gotten more specifics, but here's the link in case you can pull it in on satellite down the road. http://www.dimestorefishermen.com/index-old.cfm

Anyway, as they were setting up camp late in the day, we hosted a Mexican feast for Renee and his small crew (spanish rice and mega burritos on the grill). They thanked us immeasurably for days. Apparently it freed them up to fish into the dark of night (with full bellies) and we were promised a fish fry when they returned to shore. Unfortunately for us, we had retired early but we heard rumblings of a good time long into the night across that lagoon!

The next day, however, Renee went all out to pay us back. After an all day fish hunt he got out his deep fryer again. That fish was freshly killed, dipped in his special blend of spices and fried up nicely crunchy, yet oh so light. It truly tasted like a tender, tender piece of KFC chicken. Since he made us a heaping platterful, we boated some out to the family on the pointe to share in the bounty.

Renee kept reminding us we were "da talk of da town..dey had never had dem burridos ya know.."

These guys were characters let me tell you. Everything done the Canadian way must seem over the top for us. They would untether their gigantic ATV...drive in the water and drag out massive, wet driftwood stumps bigger than our car! Then they would haul them across the shore to their site to use for a campfire. I can't imagine how much fuel it took to light those babies, but the Canadians like to burn them for the rest of the week all day and all night! And here we Americans come with our polite little chainsaws to make neat little bundles of firewood in three sizes! Too funny...you just know they are laughing at US all the way!

I am sad to report we came in from fishing one evening and noticed violent gashes in the landscape...those wonderful characters had dragged MY favorite stump out of the water over to their campsite to burn! NOT MY STUMPY oh no!!

Glad I took my photo-ops while I had them!

I've enclosed a photo of the stump (which happened to be a favorite early morning photography op for us..oh well, we have about twenty photos of it before it died a gorious death!)..I guess we each appreciated it in out own way.

Does anyone know anything about fine china?

Posted Jan-19-07 12:18:47 PST Updated Jan-19-07 12:21:30 PST

My Mom passed away this September, and prior to that I was helping her try to get her affairs in order. She was so excited that my husband I launched an Ebay store that she started cleaning out her stash of goodies for us to list. She bought this set of 6 tea cups and saucers, pitcher creamer and tall tea pot. She said it's worth a lot but we never did finish researching it together as her health declined very quickly.

This china is very intriguing and delicate and I've put out feelers to dealers to seeif they have replacements. I cannot find any info on it! So I hope someone in Blogland might have some info.

More pix on the listing : 260032453095

My Mom's good buddy, also an Antique auction hound, cautioned her not to sell! But my Mom's wishes were to get her affairs in order. On a positive note, my Mom took a plunge and let my Dad buy her a computer so she could learn how to watch things sell on Ebay, too.  She wished she had started playing on the computer sooner, but you never saw such a eager learner. What a blessing to teach her to play!

Any info would be greatly appreciated,

CSP

What Does Friendship Mean To You?

Posted Jan-16-07 03:14:40 PST

I like this quote I just read:

A true friend knows your weaknesses but shows you your strengths: feels your fears but fortifies your faith; sees your anxieties but frees your spirit: recognizes your disabilities but emphasizes your possibilities.

             William Arthur Ward

                     Educator

It's so hard to find true friends with the above qualities isn't it? It makes me want to try harder to possess those abilities to be a true friend myself.

What are some qualities you admire in your friends?

I'll look forward to reading your responses when I come home from work today!

Hope you all have a great day,

Colleen Swain Palmer

God Intends for Man to make the coffee in the AM!

Posted Jan-15-07 15:43:02 PST
WHO DOES WHAT

A man and his wife were having an argument about who
should brew the coffee each morning.

The wife said, "You should do it because you get up first
,

and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee.

The husband said, "You are in charge of cooking around here
and

you should do it, because that is your jo b, and I can just wait for my coffee."
Wife replies, "No, you should do it, and besides,
it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee."
Husband replies, "I can't believe that, show me."
So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament
and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says ..........
