Most Recent Posts Runners-Up in Enterprise Day Challenge 2007!Posted Jul-28-07 06:31:30 PDT Updated Jul-28-07 06:36:58 PDT Yes, the results are out. Our team came in SECOND in the non-tertiary category of the
competition. A BIG THANK YOU to all our buyers, supporters and
well-wishers!! When the other teams made their presentations at the award ceremony today, we were awed by their remarkable efforts and marketing strategies. Somehow, we paled in comparison to these great teams from NUS High, Dunman High and the like. We are proud though, that as primary school students, we are able to raise our standards to that of our bigger brothers and sisters from the secondary schools. Perhaps this was what the organizers saw in us. This achievement is therefore a recognition given, not merely to our Si Ling Primary School, but to all primary school entrepreneurs. We have proven that with determination and a zeal to learn, age is not a barrier in business and entrepreneurship. We take this opportunity to thank Mrs Tan, Mrs Toh, as well as all the teachers and parents for their guidance and assistance. Without them, we will still be groping in the dark. This experience has been very exciting and interesting for all of us in the team. We hope our younger pupils can do better next year. Our eBay shop will continue to have items for sale, so do visit us from time to time. Best wishes to all! ![]() Just 1 day leftPosted Jun-30-07 07:32:59 PDT Updated Jun-30-07 07:34:25 PDT ...................... Just 1 day left.... We really hope all sellers out there would support us and buy all our items. One of us has recently listed quite a number and so far, has received a good response. But we are still 4th, a far cry from our goal of 2nd. Well, we can't really expect to beat those guys but at least we did our best. However there is still hope for us to win. We really need your support! We have lowered the price of our items drastically and we hope you will buy them all, and at the same time vote for us! Thank you to all you wonderful buyers out there!!!! Back to School Sale!!!Posted Jun-24-07 06:36:40 PDT School holidays? Wonder why they call it that because surely we spent most of our time completing our tons of homework and preparing for our major exams. Even our teachers were kept busy, having to give us revision lessons. So, holidays are just an excuse to do something different, still learning, still teaching, but in a different form. Yes, finally, the new term is beginning tomorrow. We are therefore clearing as many of our items as possible. If you are looking for some story books, assessments, collectibles, here is the chance to stock up. We have priced all our items very low. Also, if you have something in mind that your kids need, tell us. Maybe, among all our friends some may have these items, and are happy to sell them to you. All in the hope of raising more funds for charity. Hurry! Visit our shop and give us the support. We'll be happy if you can vote for us too. Thank you!!
![]() Lessons from students' eBay projectPosted Jun-19-07 06:07:39 PDT Updated Jun-19-07 06:11:08 PDT As you know, the eBay Enterprise Day project is coming to an end soon. Voting for the favorite teams ends on July 1, 2007. Thanks to our friends, relatives and eBay Powerseller supporters, we are in the Top 10 but are nowhere close to our seniors in the secondary schools and tertiary institutions. Nonetheless, we are happy to be given this chance to take part and learn. We think that our items based on the theme of children's educational material and playthings had attracted much interest. We will put in more effort, but the school vacation is coming to an end. We shall be preparing for our important P.S.L.E. (Primary School Leaving Examinations). Over the past weeks, we learned a lot. If we have to start this project all over again, we shall remember these lessons and tips:- 1. Communication Since we are having our school holidays, we could not meet up. Communication was a problem. Sometimes, there was delay in answering buyers' questions because we could not find out the details from the team members who put the items up for sale. We sincerely apologize for that. Our teachers have been very helpful especially where the questions relate to payment terms. 2. Listing format We could have standardized the format for the listings. At the moment, every team member can put items up for sale. There is no fixed style or text. It is creative, but if we have a standard format, we could create a brand for our eBay shop. 3. Blog To get our eBay blog seen by more people, the owners of the site Tips for New Bloggers linked to our Blog. They knew we are doing this eBay sales to raise funds for charity. Within a day, our Blog was indexed by Google because their site has a Google Page Rank of 5. Thanks to them, if you search for words like “Si Ling Blog” in Google, our Blog appears at the top of the results . For other people who want to get their eBay blogs seen by more people, try to get some sites to link to you. It is the fastest way. 4. Publicity By leaving comments in other people's blogs, we will also invite more people to view our eBay shop. We know because we visit the shops of those who leave comments in our Blog. It's just that our parents control the time spent on our internet access. We cannot surf the net freely. 5. Theme We think that our theme is good. Selling things like children's books, assessments, trading cards, games, toys, and collectibles make sense for us. But there are many other people selling the same things. We can be more specialized next time. If you have more advice for us, please tell us. We hope that our school will take part again next year and with your advice, we are confident that we will do better. Thank you!! ![]() ![]() ![]()
How to be successful on eBay (children's viewpoint)Posted Jun-09-07 06:11:28 PDT For this project, we have read a lot of information on eBay from the
internet and library books. We think to be successful on eBay, there
are a few steps we should take. 1. Know what to sell This is not easy. Many people try to sell things that are not common. We sell things that we know about, like children's books, assessments, trading cards, games, toys, etc. Although there are many on sale in eBay, we are better able to answer questions on the items if asked. 2. Source products We are lucky here. Because we are raising funds for charity, many people come forward to donate things for us to sell. Otherwise, we must find a cheap supplier to buy from and resell. 3. Test market It is not good to sell many items at once. We tested the market by selling a few items to find out what things sell and what don't. When we know what people like to buy, we can then sell more of those items. 4. Know our competitors Before we listed the items, we checked the prices of similar items on eBay. We also noted when their auctions closed. With that, we can fix a fair starting bid price and avoid ending the auction at the same time as our competitors. 5. Selling strategy Actually we don't have any strategy or specific target. We only want to raise as much money as possible for charity. What we do is to watch the sales and change the items for sale if not many people are interested in them. We have a record of how much we put up for sale, how much is sold, and amount raised. We will panick if we don't sell anything ... just kidding! 6. Don't give up It is so easy to be demoralized when there is no sale. We simply have to continue to push ourselves. Luckily, our teachers are very helpful and encouraging. We won't give up! For those who are in primary school looking to start an enterprise, you might want to consider selling things on eBay. We hope these tips will give you a headstart. Happy eBaying! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
