Applying Aura 22 Gold Accents to your PMC piecePosted Nov-15-06 20:28:47 PST What is Aura 22?
Aura 22 is a paint-on 22KY Gold paste-like solution. When properly fired, it can add 22KY gold accents to PMC.
Items needed:
- a butane torch
- a torch stand or solderite tile
- Aura22
- a fired PMC item (not finished)
- heat-proof glove
- a ball burnisher
Directions:
- First fire your PMC item
Immediately after firing PMC, the silver is oil-free, pourous and pure. This is the best time to apply Aura 22
- Then without finishing and carefully not touching the white,
pourous surface, apply two thin coats of gold aura. PMC is like a spong at this time. Apply one thin coat. Allow first coat to dry and then apply a thin second coat of Aura 22.
- Then once it has dried, ignite your torch, dim the lights down,
apply the flame in circular motion until it gets a redish glow. In order for Aura 22 Gold layer to fuse into the silver, you will need to heat to the proper temperature.
- Once it has reached the redish glow, start timing for one minute
keeping the circular motion with the torch. When the Aura begins to glow, it is at the right temperature to fuse into the silver metal.
- Immediately after the minute is up, holding your item down with a
heat-proof glove, burnish the aura down using a ball burnisher. In order for the Aura to fuse INTO the silver metal, it will require a little help with a ball burnisher and pressure.
- Then after it cools, finish your item.
- Usually you start by brushing the item with a fine wire brush and then with a finer brush cloth or paper. You can add darkened details by using liver of sulfur on the item which will add a black color to the details, cracks and crevaces.
