Diamonds and PMC - The Disappearing TrickPosted Nov-15-06 20:27:37 PST In a past newsletter from a jewelry supplier there was a story related about a woman whos lost her diamond from the silver precious metal clay piece she had fired in her kiln. She looked throughout the kiln and couldn't find it. So she repeated the PMC piece and again to her dismay, the diamond was gone. Ouch! what an expensive experiment. It certainly did disappear. Diamonds are carbon based, like any carbon, it burns into a gas. At the 1600F temperature required to fire PMC, it became carbon dioxide. Unless you are trying to do a disappearing trick, don't use real diamonds in your silver PMC jewelry pieces. or Poof! Gone! |
