Chevy 1950 Car AD - General Motors Chevrolet Division Special & Deluxe Series

In researching some of the ads that I list on ebay one in particular seemed to catch my interest for one reason or another. That car ad for 1950 Chevrolet Styline as pictured below must have been an awesome car to own in its day. Two door loaded with chrome trim but not really over done. It had a nice refined look with beautiful body lines. The 6 Cyl. 216.5 cid engine was also used for the bigger 4 door sedan and provided ample power for this well balanced automobile and the 2-speed Powerglide Automatic transmission made driving the vehicle a pleasure. The word DELUXE on the fender pretty much said it all for the car. Based on the vehicles Chevy was building then it is no suprise that Chevrolet was rated #1 in 1950!

1950 Studebaker Champion

The Studebaker Champion DeLuxe Coupe for 1950 had a new feature...The chrome bullet nose front end! The basic design of the car was the same for the exception of the rear vertical tail lights. I guess you could say this car kind of launched the rocket-age look or design for what was to come in the 1950's. It ended up with giant tail fins that looked like wings on some cars & huge amounts of chrome everywhere! Those days are gone...or maybe not. Just look at all the retro looking cars the auto makers are producing now.

This was one stylish car for the times. The factory price was $1497 & for Studebaker, well it was their best year ever!

If you have any car info or memories that you might like to share, please do.

My family had been in the automotive & truck business from the 1940s right up to 1999 so I have a lot to share in regards to cars.

I plan on posting a lot more interesting info in the coming weeks on many different vehicles.

Cars and More about Them

As a vintage ad seller on ebay I have seen my share of different car ads and also as a major car buff myself I wanted to share some fun information on you guessed it cars!

First off let me ask if anybody out there has ever seen or know anything about a special edition 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I

 - It had a 389 GT engine (I think?) with High Output 360 horse power 4-speed trans (of course!) with the shaker hood -Ie. RAM AIR. Oh and by the way it had a duel feed Holly carb to boot! As you might suspect this was a very FAST car. I had one of these cars when I was about 18 years old and the car at the time was about  4 years old. I should not have been allowed to have a car this fast or have as much fun as I did with it. I don't think my Dad new much about this car and what it was.  I raced a corvette once late at night (or early morning) on route 3 in N. New Jersey. I blew the doors off the poor guy. He never saw it coming. I mean this car had power in reserve too. He just watched my tail lights disappear in a hurry. End of Story!  I also think the gear ratio and rear end were well balanced along with the awesome power output and lightness of the car. Let me just sum it up...Corvette killer- you bet! Now we are talking muscle car Corvettes here not your average scaled down light weight. I had rubber in all 4 gears. You guys know what I mean! I'm lucky that I am here today to be blogging away! I don't think they made a lot of this particular version. I had to sell it to pay for all my traffic violations a couple of years later. It was black with the basic Mach I striping logos etc. It did have special Aluminum Crager wheels...Beautiful with black accents I recall. I wish I had the car today- It would be worth a fortune! At least $60,000 maybe a lot more.

I also owned a 1967 Pontiac GTO (Grand Touring Option) with 4 speed Dual Exhaust, Big engine don't recall CI  or HP but here goes- This car was also SPECIAL. It was a (get this!)  Texas State Police Highway Patrol! INTERCEPTOR! It did have TRI-POWER also known as a six pack. This was a fast car! It also had a big gold star on the side of each door! I'm not kidding! The stars were kinda brushed out and looked faded but if you looked you could make out the wording to a degree. It was really weird back in the day! I never thought of it but I wonder what the police thought here in NJ when they saw me driving this beast around? My dad did not like this car to say the least. I was only about 17 at the time! Lucky Me! Another car I wish I had today...were talking mega bucks now!

Thanks for your time

Tom

It seems that we face challenges today as American's and America as a country that seem to be almost impossible to overcome! I say no way. I think our greatest days are ahead because of the these challenges we face. Yes they will cause us and our children great trials and tribulations. We will prevail and overcome these threats and adversities. We all stand as one here in this great country of ours. We will all pull together when the time is right. We have before and we will again. We have the spirit, we know what we have here and know it is something unique in the history of mankind. A special place, a special culture...we are SPECIAL! Our forefathers set it up that way. These demigods who were a collective mindset who had the foresight to know that we must blend the peoples from any and every country in the world that want to join in the experiment! The great melting pot that boils down to extracting the best and the brightest. Think Albert Einstein for one who came here to seek refuge from the Nazis. Our greatest days do lie ahead for America. Sure the challenges are great possibly bigger then anything we have ever faced. Religious fanatics, Global Warming and disastrous rapid climate changes, Escalating energy prices and potential supply problems, Economic Challenges & competition from China, a country with over a Billion people! rogue countries arming themselves with Nuclear weapons & many more serious problems that will change the world as we know it. We are in fantastic times, Interesting times! Lets embrace the challenges. Overcome them or work around them. Lets move ahead as American's do in times of great troubles.
