Alesia F Norling Contemporary Mixed-media Collage Paintings

One giant step for me, one teeny step for mankind...

Hello and welcome. This is my first, and hopefully not my last, blog entry.

I'm not sure who reads these blogs, if anyone, but I'll try to offer some interesting information for any brave, or bored, soul who drops by.

I am a professional artist. What does that mean? Well, basically it means I make money from my art (sometimes - haha). People often ask me if my parents were upset at my career choice; as everyone knows, a life of trying to make a living as an artist is not an easy one. However, my father is a life-long sculptor and so, rather than being frowned upon, my choice was at the least, unsurprising and at the most, expected. I have two siblings (one older, one younger) and while they are both creative people, neither has decided to take the path that both my dad and I have.

While I have always created art, it hasn't always been my main occupation. For many years I earned my bread and butter as a graphic designer working on everything from medical literature to web images to corporate identities. For the most part, I found my work interesting and it certainly paid well. After giving birth to my daughter I made the decision to stay at home with her full time as my mom did for my siblings and me.

I began creating and selling art via eBay about a year later. eBay offered me a chance to be a professional artist without the normal travel and other inconveniences that traditional art selling venues require. I began slowly because I had little time to create and also because I was very new to the whole idea and workings of eBay. As my daughter grew and my knowledge of internet selling increased I began focusing on my artistic style - where I wanted my art to go.

Four years later I'm a little more eBay savvy and significantly more focused in my painting. I sell in many galleries now but still enjoy the freedom of selling my artwork directly on-line. There are some extraordinary collectors who browse eBay art listings and I have been fortunate enough for some of them to find and purchase my work. There are also some fantastic artists selling here and I hope to talk about them in future blog posts.

If you would like to know more about me and my artwork, please take a look at my ME page or my website: www.afnorling.com
