In the March 2008 issue of Coin World magazine it was announced that fake PCGS slab coins were showing up for sell on eBay.  As of March 27, 2008 all the fake slab PCGS coins were said to be coming from China.  Most of the coins were poor counterfeits but a few were more difficult to recognize without professional clarification.  One way to ensure your slab coin is authentic is to go to the PCGS website www.pcgs.com and enter the catalog number of the coin into the "coin look up guide."  Be sure the coin description matches the type and grade of the coin that is noted in your slab.  Although this does not quarantee you will not get stuck with a fake coin, it can help alert you to the more obvious fake's.  You can also re-submit the coin to PCGS for authentication.  Lastly, you can learn as much as possible about your potential purchases.  And only purchase from eBay dealers with good to high feedback reports.
