If you'd asked that question about 10 years ago, my list would be HUGE. A mil isn't what it used to be. But...I really dunno. Probably sock it away cause we're boring like that.
Good answer madcat. If I had an EXTRA mil, I would do all of those things (cept, the parent thing, only one parent who is very much self-sufficient). Unfortunately, you need at least a million or more in the bank to retire these days. All the stuff you can blow a million on is just temporary. Invest it, sock it away, buy some real estate. You'll appreciate that decision when the time comes, and you may just be able to retire early and enjoy your life, and stay off of Alpo. That's our plan!
I'd probably pay bills, buy a new car that takes little gas. Our car has 200,000 + miles on it and still runs good. We are waiting to have it die before buying another. I'd make sure the grandchildren have a college fund and then share with others who need a helping hand making sure that I could make money with what is left to grow it into bunches...like Ophra's Big Give. The money would be gone before I knew it! I'm afraid that we need more to do anything very memorable.
