Robyn Hitchcock - I' Wanna Go Backward ' box setPosted Dec-21-07 20:36:53 PST hey kids...do you like the rock and roll? Well, if you were ever a fan of what was called 'alternative rock' in the late 80's/early 90's, this set should be just what you're looking for. I WANNA GO BACKWARDS is the new box set/reissue series for former Soft Boys member Robyn Hitchcock's early album reissues. While it is available on cd, where is the fun in that? Instead, if you really love your rock and roll, you should opt for the 8 LP 180 gram vinyl box set. It features Robyn's first 3 solo albums; "Black Snake Diamond Role", "I Often Dream Of Trains", & "Eye". But that's not all...you get 5 LPs of rarities titled "While Thatcher Mauled Britain". But wait, there's more...you also get a poster personally autographed by the artist! Oh yeah, one more thing...you get a FREE digital download of the entire set so you can burn your own cds for the car or put it on your I-Pod. I stand to make no money from this blog, just alerting my fellow music fan to an INCREDIBLE musical experience. Every fan of Syd Barrett, Marc Bolan, psychedelic music, and/or garage rock should jump all over this one. I ordered my copy from the Yep-Rock Records website. They've built up quite a roster of artists in the last few years: Ian Hunter, Robyn Hitchcock, Southern Culture on the Skids, John Doe, Jason Ringenburg, Rev. Horton Heat, Dave Alvin, Paul Weller and on and on. Hitchcock's "Ole! Tarantula" on Yep-Rock was one of my favorite new recordings this year and I was lucky enough to catch him live in Nashville in April of this year. This set just reinforces what incredibly weird and beautiful music he made early in his solo career. It's practically a blueprint of 'alternative music' for the next decade. Sometimes it's brooding and rockin', sometimes it's acoustic & folky and sometimes BOTH in the same song. The lyrics don't always make that much sense unless you open up and 'let the metaphysical pictures fly through the air' (thanks Tom Snyder)...then the experience can be almost sublime. It's one incredible package and one great listening experience.
