Why a blog on Collectibles?

I am admittedly addicted to collecting. Not only do I continue to collect my cherished favorites, but I keep adding to my cherished favorite list! Every year it seems that I am shopping for something new... Collectibles are comforting. They represent a positive event or memory in my life that is peaceful and nourishing!

It all started when I was a child. I grew up on a farm and I loved my barnyard animals, as well as the wildlife critters that skulked around the farm. I would stalk them with my Brownie camera, patiently awaiting the opportunity to snap that perfect picture.

I also grew up within walking distance of the ocean, and spent summers sailing and swimming with the other neighborhood kids. My mother was a gardener, and I loved helping her dig, weed, and plant before and after my ocean jaunts. I love working beside her barefooted, digging my fingers and toes into the warm, rich dirt.

As I matured, I discovered that my love of ocean sports extended to fitness in general and, after graduating from college, I became a personal trainer/fitness instructor.

I was blessed with an idyllic childhood, which continued through my early twenties. However, all that changed in my mid twenties when my family was plagued by one tragedy after another for the next few decades. During this time, I reached out and clung to my Christian faith, which has seen me through each painful trauma.

Also during this time, I found that shopping for collectibles was therapeutic if it was something that reminded me of my happy earlier years! From nautical, wildlife, inviting scents and inspirational Christian items to fitness, gardening, and primitive folk art, I have a bin filled with new, unused treasures! I love eBay because it gives me an excuse to satisfy my craving to shop without actually keeping what I've bought. I couldn't if I wanted to -- I don't have a square inch left to decorate. My walls are covered with photographs, plaques, plates, tapestries, and shelves to "shelf-sit" my angels, lighthouses, sea shells, moose, birds, more photographs, and whatever else the latest "comfort urge" is!

This is my reason for the season! What is yours?
