Archive - August 2007 Mighty, MightyPosted Aug-26-07 06:52:24 PDT ...by Earth, Wind, and Fire. That's what I'm
listening to, right now. I'm hoping EW&F, plus more coffee,
will combine to get me focused. I have accomplished some things
this morning - put the last load of clothes in the dryer; packaged an
item for shipping; done a few other chores; and tripped over Bear (both
he, and I, are unscathed by the experience). Bear - 15 Pound Immovable Object
![]() Yet, I don't feel focused, or alert, just yet. I'm on cruise control. Now, Let's Groove is playing, also by EW&F. If that doesn't wake up my brain cells, I'm going put on some Etta James and go with the flow. A few InuYasha items are next up for listing. Coming soon to a BeadDance auction near you. I'll blog at 'cha later. B- Thinking About My GrandmaPosted Aug-22-07 05:21:26 PDT Morning to all. My Grandma died more than 40 years
ago. She's always in my thoughts. Yesterday, though, I had
a flood of memories, and impressions, of my Grandma. The
wonderful sensory experience of hugging my Grandma while she was
washing clothes, using one of the old hand-crank washing machines with
the rollers for wringing water out of the clothes - her thin cotton
apron warm and damp, and smelling of fresh laundry. How my
Grandma stopped working when I asked her to watch me do a dreadful
imitation of a group singing on American Bandstand, and how she clapped
and cheered when I was done. How she was always happy to see me,
and sad to see me leave. How, no matter how busy she was, she
would listen to me talk about what was really important to me - that if
I mixed all the fingerpaint colors together I got the color brown; that
I had graham crackers and cheese for a snack; and that I saw a
butterfly in the front yard. How she cared for her rose
bushes. How she encouraged me to learn answers to my what is
this; where is that; why is the sky blue; questions, by looking through
her encyclopedias, and looking up words in the dictionary. So
many things. My Grandma died when I was a child. My
Grandma, and the memories of her, have been a source of strength, and
comfort, for me my whole life. I don't remember any material
thing my Grandma bought for me. I only remember our time
together. I will never stop missing her, and I will always love
her. I wish my Grandma had lived longer. I am happy, and
grateful, for the time I did have with my Grandma. It is amazing what impact an adult can have on a child for that child's entire life. I'll blog at 'cha later. The DVD Special Edition Trend - What Do You Think?Posted Aug-20-07 06:52:09 PDT 'Morning! I saw a commercial yesterday for a 2-disc, special edition of the movie Serenity, from the television series Firefly. I really enjoyed the television series, and I already have Serenity on
DVD. I started wondering about so many "special edition"
DVDs. For me, if I like a movie, or series, enough to want to
purchase the DVDs, I will purchase the DVD as soon as they are
available and I can afford them. Nowadays, it is almost a given
that a "special edition" will be released, but I don't want to
wait. I understand that some folks wait for the "special edition"
that is almost sure to be released at some point for popular movies and
series. It seems to me that out of the total number of folks
willing to buy DVDs, most are either like me, or wait for the "special
edition". This makes me wonder, why not only release the "special
edition"? Are there that many folks who purchase the regular, and
special, edition? Just being curious... Yesterday was "change the kitty litter" day. Nothing says devotion like being willing to clean up another being's processed food. Oh, yeah. I've been watching the reports on hurricane Dean. I'm not in the projected path. The last hurricane that impacted my area was Rita. I only caught the remnants of Rita, and it was scary. My thoughts are with all the folks dealing with hurricane Dean. I'll blog at 'cha later. B- Arachnophobes Avoid This Entry - It's Quiet...Maybe Too QuietPosted Aug-18-07 06:49:55 PDT Good morning! I just realized that it is very quiet
this morning. That downed electrical wire, incessant, very loud.
buzzing of over-sexed male cicadas - the theme music of summer - is
gone. Wow. Maybe cicada season is over. Everything is bigger in Texas. Including the bugs. When I moved to Texas, the size of some of the bugs surprised me to no end. The first time I saw a garden spider in Texas, I contacted entomology departments at various colleges, and sent them photos I took of the spider. The spider's body alone was around an inch in length. I thought anything that big, and garish, had to have humans on its menu, or at the very least be the result of mutation due to toxic waste. I know, too much influence by '50s science fiction movies. I was assured that the spider was harmless to humans. One entomologist who responded nicknamed me "The Spider Lady". I've been called worse. :-) Big 'Ol Spider, a.k.a. Harmless Garden Spider, Texas-Style: ![]() I've got some items listed. I'll be prepping more items for listing next week. I'll blog at 'cha later. B- I Beaded My Cane, Now What to do With My WalkerPosted Aug-17-07 06:22:58 PDT Updated Aug-17-07 06:25:39 PDT Hello! I'm trying to figure out a way to decorate my walker. When I primarily used canes, I decorated my canes by beading them. I still have one cane that I partially beaded, using seed beads. I wanted to bead my walker, but when it's folded, many of the areas I beaded (using glass seed beads) were damaged. I removed the beads, and I painted part of my walker with alcohol inks, and sealed the inks with many layers of sealant. It's been a few years, and the paint is wearing off in spots. Now, I'm thinking about decoupaging my walker. Something to eliminate that hard, medical metal, blahness of it all. I have to experiment to find the best adhesive for attaching paper and/or cloth to metal. My Black Beaded Cane: ![]() My Painted Walker: ![]() I miss Stargate SG-1, although I think that season 10 was a mixed bag - too many filler episodes. But, no more new episodes. *sigh* I am looking forward to the Stargate SG-1 movies, Ark of Truth and Continuum. They can't be released too soon for me. Stargate Atlantis, well, I enjoy the series, although the writing seems to be not as strong. Love Ronan; Miss Ford. The weather has finally changed from argh, to ugh. It's cooler, but that's relative. It is still health-threateningly hot. "If I owned Texas and Hell, I would rent out Texas and live in Hell",
General Phil Sherman Yeah, that pretty much says it all about the weather here, lately. I'll blog at 'cha later. B- It's Later - I'm BloggingPosted Aug-16-07 12:41:41 PDT Updated Aug-16-07 12:42:39 PDT Greetings! It has been a little while since I made a blog entry. Life, the universe...you know, the usual stuff that keeps one from doing certain things. I'm still here, though. My listings? Eh. What listings? I'll be getting some things up soon. My ISP decided to take down the free web space (where I just happen to keep my item photos and graphics) for updating, or upgrading, or maintenance, or to see just how high my blood pressure could go. I missed yesterday's freebie with gallery special. Today, I re-created my auction template, and About Me page, parking my photos and graphics on a free online photo-hosting site. Now, I'm ready if my ISP doesn't get the web space functioning anytime soon (the projected completion was two hours yesterday morning; a few more hours yesterday afternoon; by today late yesterday afternoon; and it still isn't working now.) Gotta be flexible. Truth be told, I had all the charm of a rabid bear with a toothache yesterday. Today, I'm much more pleasant. Really! Sez me, heh. I missed you all, I'm glad to be back, and I'll blog at cha later. B- |
