Oh, What a Beautiful Morning

Happy morning to you!  The new allergy med is still doing its thing, so I'm not sneezing.  Life is good.

I now have two rooms in the house in some semblance of order.  The other rooms?  Well, I'm still mucking through that stuff, so I have a way to go before all rooms are really functional.  My city having a recyling program helps a lot with overcoming my keeping everything.  As long as an item is recyclable, I don't feel that I need to keep it, and try to use it for something.  Now, I chuck it into the recyle bin.  Fortunately, most of the stuff I was pack-ratting is recyclable, hence why I was reluctant to toss it in the trash.  My  volume of trash going to the dump has dropped by more than 50%.  I'd like to start composting, but I don't have anything laying around that is suitable as a composting container.  My finances don't allow for the purchase of a composter at this time, so I still have guilt when throwing out anything that could be composted.  If only someone who is a genius with chemistry would figure out a way to compost used kitty litter, I would have very little trash going to the dump.

I'm still making my way through the Evelyn Wood Speed Reading book.  Very interesting.  And effective.  I likey!  I have many books I'd like to read, including a number of books on the technical aspects of writing.  Getting through those books faster would mean that I can get to writing my fabulous novel faster.  What fabulous novel?  Heh, there isn't one at this time.  I enjoy writing, and the thought of earning an income with writing is very, very appealing to me.  I have some ideas for stories, but they are still in a primordial state; hopefully they are evolving into inspiring story ideas as they percolate in my mind.  Not yet, though.

It is a wonderfully cool morning.  We are under threat of 80+ degree highs for the next few days.  The threat factor is that if the weather gets consistently hot, it will be time to turn on the air conditioner, something I want to put off for as long as possible.  As long as the weather continues to cool off at night, I don't have to turn on the air conditioner, and start generating an insanely high electric bill.

No More Sneezing!

Sorry I haven't blogged for a few days, due to a combination of good, and not so good.

The good - I created a group for science fiction fans, and we had our first meeting this past Saturday.  For the first time in over six years, I went out and socialized with people face-to-face.  The number of attendees at the meeting was small, but I had a very good time.  The not so good - I was physically wiped out.  I'm doing well, it just takes longer for my body to recover.  And, there is my cranky, damaged nerve which is still muttering unprintable words at me due to Saturday.  But, I really enjoyed interacting with folks, so the pain is worth it.

I had another round of allergy attacks this week - not so good.  Rapid-fire sneezing, and much running of the nose.  I've been allergic to every plant pollen, and animal dander, my entire life.  Yes, that includes cats.  My cats.  But, after a year or so, my body builds up immunity to an individual cat's allergens.  I'm still allergic to cats, but not my cats.  The same thing for plants, so something new must be blooming its head off, and creating a lot of pollen.  Benadryl is good for relieving my allergy symptoms, but I either fall asleep, or I ambled around like an extra from a George Romero zombie movie.  I went to the pharmacy yesterday to pick up refills of some of my prescription meds, and I asked the pharmacist to suggest an over-the-counter allergy relief medicine.  The pharmacist suggested Claritin or Zyrtec.  She said that Claritin is for indoor allergies, and Zyrtec is for indoor, and outdoor, allergies.  Since my home is not hermetically sealed, it's a safe bet that whatever allergens are outside, are also inside my home.  I selected a generic version of Zyrtec.  Oh, my goodness.  What a difference.  I'm loving the generic Zyrtec.  This is the first morning this week I am not sneezing my nose off.  Without the Benadryl hangover, I am able to string words together for a blog entry.  Yes!

Just Ambling Around

I spent a little time this morning saying "good kitty" to one of my cats.  Until I turned on a light, and realized I was cooing at a space heater.   I moved "get new eyeglasses" further up my "once I get some money" list.

For lunch yesterday, I made one of those complete and heat frozen meals, the kind that are in plastic sacks and have all the ingredients included - pasta, shrimp, and veggies, in this instance.  It was on clearance sale, a red flag in, and of, itself.  But, when something is priced so very low, I get stupid.  Everything was fairly tasty, except the sauce.  I knew I was in trouble when I opened the frozen sauce pack, and my eyes began watering from the smell of raw garlic.  Still, I paid for it, so I was going to eat it. Once done cooking the meal, I smelled like raw garlic, as did the house, and the neighborhood.  I'm vaguely certain that I garnered some nutrition from the meal.  I'm absolutely certain that the garlic smell cleared the neighborhood of any vampires that may have been lurking around.

Yesterday, I broke up a fight between my always-indoor cats, and a feral cat on my front porch.  Based on the sounds that alerted me to the situation, they were seriously trying to do each other in, but since the fight occurred with the metal security/storm door between them, there was no physical damage.  Just some unhappy cats.  I closed the front door to prevent any further squabbles.  Five minutes later, my cats wanted me to open the front door, so they could lay in the sunshine, the fighting apparently forgotten.  I marveled at my cats short term memory, or lack there of, and opened the front door, still leaving the security/storm door closed.  The rest of the day was cat-fight free.

I am fortunate in having avoided any damage from yesterday's storms.  This morning is bright, crisp, and clear, belying the recent meteorological melee.

A Quick Good Morning

Very stormy this morning.  Heavy rain; thunder; lightning; the works.  I've had flickering lights from the power getting iffy, so I'm keeping this entry short in case the power goes out.

You Can Say You Knew Me When...

Amazing news!  PolymerCAFE is a magazine focused on the many aspects of polymer clay, including projects; tips; basics; and more.  One section of PolymerCAFE is the Reader's Gallery, where polymer clay enthusiasts' creations are showcased.  The Spring, 2008 issue's Reader's Gallery has a theme, "Useful and Beautiful Things".  Two of my creations are in the issue.  Yes!  BeadDance's work  - a notepad, and a pen - in a major magazine, one with an international audience!   Woo-hoo!   I submitted the photos to PolymerCAFE, but I never heard back from them, so I figured my creations were not selected.  Imagine my surprise when I flipped through the Spring 2008 issue of the magazine, and BAM!  THAT'S MY STUFF!  IN A MAGAZINE!  I could fill this blog entry with exclamation points, and still not convey how surprised, and happy, I am.  Here are photos of the notepad, and pen.

It's a  lovely, cool morning.  My muscle aches from over doing it on Monday have eased off.  I'm still waiting for my damaged nerve to stop screaming at me, though.  It's looking like another lost day as far as physical activity.  No vacuuming today.  I have mixed feelings about that, as I like clean, but I'm not that fond of vacuuming.

My Achy Breaky Body

I'm typing this blog entry as I wait for the Tylenol I took to kick in.  I went overboard yesterday doing chores around the house, and I'm still paying for it.  But, I feel good about what I did accomplish - changed the kitty litter, and knocked the number of colors in my hair down from 7 to 3 with a liberal application of hair dye.  Yay, me!

I also cut my hair, as it was looking kind of crazy.  Having my hair longer is great for slapping it into a banana comb, but otherwise, it isn't a good look for me.  So, I trimmed my hair into some sort of pixie mullet.  The pixie part was intentional.  The mullet part is because I can't properly trim the back of my hair.  Ah, well.  All I have to do is never be in a position for someone to see the sides, or back, of my hair.  Riiiight...

The end result of yesterday's blog entry about eBay Pink Slapping me because my blog had comment spam from someone else was a canned response from eBay telling me to contact them again about the issue.  I learned nothing new from the situation, except how to make a rolling eyes emoticon.  8-|    I think the emoticon looks more bug eyes than rolling eyes, but I'll take it.

Today I plan to do nothing labor intensive.  My body is still angry about yesterday, so I'm giving in to it and resting.
