| Most Recent Posts Bad Power Supply?Posted Sep-05-08 13:17:17 PDT Not sure if you have a bad power supply? Here are a few things to look for and consider. Does the computer turn on at all? If yes your problem is not the power supply Does the power supply have a smell? (burnt maybe) This is sometimes a good indication that the PS is bad. Do the fans spin on the PS? sometimes it is still getting power to it but there is another problem with the supply or potentially the motherboard. Was there a popping sound that came from your computer? Power supply dead. Could be from a power surge. You can buy a power supply tester at most tech shops. They are about $10-$15. You unplug the power supply from the motherboard and plug it in to the tester. If all the lights come on you are good. If you are missing some it is bad, if you are missing all lights it is bad. No worries its a pretty simple repair. Please make sure to work on you computer in a static free zone. (ground your self out, our the computer on a static pad) as to not further do any damage to your computer. Remove the old supply. On the side of the power supply it will tell you what wattage you have (300Watt or similar). Then find a replacement powersupply. Get the same size or go a little bit larger. Then put the new one in the case. Plug it in to the motherboard. Close the case and then plug in the power. Still nothing happening? Sometimes when a power supply blows it can take out the motherboard. So you can take your system in to have it checked with your trusted technical support team.
