Joy is Not in Things...
16x20x3/4" Mixed Media on Canvas
The quote is by German composer Richard Wagner and goes like this, "Joy is not in things, it is in us." How true, how true. This is a companion piece to the earlier post. There is one more to make 3 and will post it at a later date. Like the other piece, this is created with patterned paper, gel medium and acrylic paint. Once again the creative process took on a life of it's own. My vision and the finished artwork are not quite a match, but that's OK because I really love how the three pieces turned out.
Right now is your chance to own this original because it is up for Auction and can be yours if you place the winning bid. All Life is an Experiment.......Oh ya!Posted Aug-28-08 23:27:30 PDT 16x20x3/4" Acrylic on Canvas
Had this big idea to do a collage on a grid of squares. Don't really know why, just thought it might be an intriguing composition.
Now that I stop to think about it, my inspiration came from an old 1940s wallpaper sample book that my mom had saved all these years from her childhood. My grandfather brought it home from his place of work at the local lumberyard store. (What we now call Home Depot. LOL) Anyways, Mom used it as a photo album up until last year when she removed all the photos to put them into a proper album and gave me me the old sample book. I love leafing through it and picking out my favorites, but someday soon I'm going to use those sample pieces to create a few old wallpaper collages based on this series that I just finished, one of which is shown above.
The quote is from Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr and painting is listed at Auction and could be yours if you are the winning bidder.
Today's Daily PaintingPosted Aug-28-08 08:13:05 PDT

The ever popular tree of life series is what today's composition is all about. Even though the subject is the same, each painting in this series varies in some way or another. The constant elements in all of my tree of life paintings have to do with subject matter; the flattened tree shape, birds, and hanging leaves. Color, texture (pattern), shape, value, and line, change in each painting. No two are alike.
To make this 2 foot by 2 foot painting your very own, please visit the Auction going on right now. Hurry, Aug 28th is the last day to place a bid.
