Batman 615 comic book with stamp and first day of issue cancellation POSTED

This book has been posted.

Check it out! And don't forget to bid!

USPS DC Super Heroes Stamps with Comic Con 1st Day of Issue Cancellation on Comic Book a hit with Comic Book and Stamp fans!!!

The marriage of the two hobbies seems to be a success!

Judging by previous winnings, it appears that the winner of my listing is a comic book fan, while the winner of this auction appears to come from the stamp collecting side of the fence.

I wonder how many of these books with the first day cancellation exists? With potential fans from the world of comic books and philately, the supply of these stamped books may not even come close to the demand.

Take a look at the book I'm going to post tomorrow.

Does anyone else have copies of the books that inspired the stamps, with affixed stamp and cancellations?

Oh yeah... Also be sure to check out my guides and let me know what you think of them... Thanks!!!

Update on Frank Miller's 300 and the stamp books

  • Frank Miller's series appears to be generating some heat. A complete set of issues 1-5 has reached an all time high for the past two weeks, at $46.11, and the 300 lithograph sold at $505.55! Wow!

  • The CGC 9.8 copy of 300 #1 saw a lot of action and finally sold at $64.50. That's pretty impressive and has inspired me to submit my 300 set for grading...

  • The graded copy of Batman #615 sold at $26.00. The stamp connection still doesn't appear to be having an effect of the book.

  • The current high bid for Green Lantern #76, CGC Graded 9.0 is now at $285.

  • Highest bid for Wonder Woman #22, listed as NM sold at $2.28... again, no noticeable effect..

  • Current bid for Batman #1, CGC Graded 3.0, restored- $6900.00. (To be fair, this book and Green Lantern 76 would sell well no-matter-what their association to other industry events... they're just fun to watch!)

Though it's still early to tell if the books alone will benefit from their association with the USPS stamps,  the combination of book AND cancelled stamp appears to be of interest to collectors. Check out my copy of Green Arrow #15 with stamp and cancellation included on the cover. The book sold for over $15, which is pretty impressive considering a single copy of the book without stamp & cancellation hasn't seen any recent activity to speak of. I'll be keeping my eye on this auction to see if the interest continues.

Link to early review of Frank Miller's 300 comic book movie!!!

Wow! The movie doesn't come out until a few months into next year, and they're already doing screenings!
Check out the review on my favorite comic book news site, Comic Book Resources!

Enough about me...Back on "track"

Sorry about that little detour... lets get back to looking at the books involved in our little test cases.

There's been a little bit of activity:

  • the current highest bid for a set of Frank Miller 300 issues 1-5 is $31.00, which is pretty decent, BUT the real news is that there is a 300 lithograph that curently has a high bid of almost $350! Would this have happened a year ago?
  • The CGC 9.8 copy of 300 #1 still hasn't seen any activity to speak of.
  • the highest bid for Batman #615 is a cgc graded copy at $18.99
  • The curent high bid for Green Lantern 76 CGC Graded 9.0 is 152.50 (and I take full responsibility for that one, thankyouverymuch!)
  • Highest bid for Wonder Woman #22, listed as NM- $2.28
  • Current bid for Batman #1, CGC Graded 3.0, restored- $5100.00- NICE!!!

Speaking of Batman, Wonder Woman and uh...Green Latern (yeah, I know- bad segue)... Has anyone read the new Justice League #1 that came out yesterday? If so, what's your thoughts?

Temtation got the best of me...

Well, I checked back on those two auctions I was interested in and placed a bid on the Green Lantern #76. The good news- I'm currently the highest bidder. The bad news, I still haven't reached the reserve price. Man I hate that!

I would have bidded on the 300 book also, but I couldn't make out the CGC serial number in the picture, so I had to ask the seller for the number before placing my bid. As a rule, I like to verify the CGC submission before I bid on graded books. I've never actually heard of counterfeit CGC books on the market... but better safe than sorry.

Has anyone else heard tales of, or been a victim of, counterfeit CGC books? Does anyone else verify books with the grading company before placing a bid? Am I paranoid?

...I wonder???

I thought it interesting to track eBay buying & selling activity around 2 events within the comic book industry:

The 1st event culminates with the 2007 release of the motion picture 300, based on the Frank Miller comic book.

Since production began on the movie, there has been increased interest in the comics. That interest will only flourish as the release date grows near, but how will it affect the price of the original, five-issue miniseries? If you’re an eBay seller with copies of these books, NOW would seem the perfect time to have them graded & prepared for sale.

Agree? Disagree? Let me know…

As of this writing:

  • the current highest bid for any Frank Miller 300 copy is $20.50.
  • One of the listings is an auction for a CGC 9.8 copy of #1. ("I think I’m going to bid on this item…")

The 2nd event involves the USPS DC Super Heroes stamps released earlier this summer. Surprisingly, since the release, sellers haven’t highlighted the books as source material for the stamps. As the books’ significance becomes more apparent to the comic book & stamp communities, will desire for copies of these books increase? Will sellers who own books such as Batman #615, Green Arrow #15, Wonder Woman #22 or any of the other comics that lent their images to the Postal Stamps, catch-on & begin highlighting the books’ significance? Will this have a positive impact on the desirability of these books?

Some highlights of a few of the books involved:

  • Highest bid for Batman 615- $0.00
  • Starting bid for Green Lantern 76 CGC Graded 9.0- $50.00 ("No current bids but I think I’m going to bid on this item too…")
  • Highest bid for Wonder Woman #22, listed as NM- $0.99
  • Current bid for Batman #1, CGC Graded 3.0, restored- $2425.00
