Archive - February 2007 This week's comic books, and 9 days 'til we Dine In Hell!!!Posted Feb-28-07 21:17:13 PST Ahhh... sweet Wednesday.... Once again Hump-day has brought a nice mix of reading material. But before I get into the titles I purchased earlier today, I have a few words about a graphic novel from my existing collection that I recently re-read.
Frank Miller's 300 is a truly wonderful book. Maybe I'm just all caught up in the hype of the upcomming movie, but I don't remember 300 being THIS good when I first read it, almost 10 years ago. Maybe it's because when I read it previously, it was in serialized form. Today, I read it all in one sitting, and MAN, it's one really satisfying read! It has a great story about holding onto your values and never giving up. And the art is fantastic!!!
The movie has a lot to live up to! Fortunately, all indication is that it WILL live up to the hype. I cant wait! I'm pumped!!! I'M READY TO "DINE IN HELL!!!" I'M PREPARED TO "FIGHT IN THE SHADE!!!" ...please let it be good....
Here's what I bought this week:
52 WEEK #43- They got me last week! I didn't see the Dr. Fate/Elongated Man twist coming. It was quite enjoyable. Now lets get back to Animal Man and The (new) Question storylines! ACTION COMICS #846- It has been sooo long since the last issue! The inability of these high-profile books to stay on schedule is really annoying! I really enjoyed the Annual a couple of weeks ago. I hope this issue is worth the wait! BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #3- hummm? I'm really conflicted about this book. The completist in me says stay with it until the storyline ends, but to tell the truth, neither the story nor art is "doing it" for me- which is strange considering I usually like both Dingle's writing and Portacio's art... CITY OF OTHERS #1- I really like Bernie Wrightson! ETERNALS #7 (OF 7)- As soon as I get this last issue, I'm gonna read the whole series in one shot. JACK OF FABLES #8- Gotta catch up on Fables before I start reading Jack. But once I do, I'll have all the Jack issues available for quick consumption. JUSTICE #10 (OF 12)- two more issues to go until I read this whole series (Are you noticing a pattern here? Maybe I should start waiting for the trades?). WIZARD COMICS MAG- Gotta keep up with the industry!
Let me know what comics you purchased, or share your own anticipation for 300! I'm listening... Is anybody out there? If so, there may be something special in it for you...Posted Feb-20-07 23:16:42 PST Updated Feb-20-07 23:39:15 PST Every once in a while, I ask myself, "Is anyone reading my blogs?" Fortunately, I haven't started answering myself yet, but unfortunately I'm still left pondering this question...
I've always found the best way to get a response is by offering something for free. So here's the deal... If the winner of my Jim Carrey, the number 23 mouse pad reads this blog-entry and would like a free movie poster along with the mouse pad, just include an extra $2.99 to the shipping cost (to cover the cost of the mailing tube), and I'll throw in the poster.
That's all there is to it. If you win the mouse pad, I hope you're reading this... Ghost Rider out this Week! And only a few weeks until 300!!!Posted Feb-15-07 10:04:00 PST Updated Feb-15-07 10:37:26 PST WOOPS! We're more than half way through February and I'm barely doing my first blog for the month!
Yeowch! It's amazing how life can speed right by if you're not paying attention. Anyway...
Ghost Rider opens tomorrow! The kids are out of school for President's day, so we'll be at our local theater for the first showing. We'll be wearing our Ghost Rider baseball caps! Check out my auctions, to get your own!
I collected and enjoyed the Ghost Rider series for a couple of years, so I'm excited to see how Hollywood handles the character. And my boys are even more excited about the film. I don't know... something about a flaming skull and a motorcycle that just revs their engines...
Yesterday (Wednesday) being Valentines Day and all, I didn't get a chance to pick up my fix of weekly comics. Needles to say, I'm jonzen' bad right about now.... so I'll be headed to the store as soon as it opens today (Thursday). Here's what I'm buying this week:
...A lot of good books this week. And a superhero movie too! This is the type of week that a comic book fan dreams of. Thankfully, with the plethora of comic book related movies coming out this year, there will be plenty more weeks like this one! Up next, the week of March 9, anchored by the hotly anticipated release of Frank Miller's 300!
Speaking of which, check out my 300 items for sale: Get 'em now, 'cause after this movie is released, they'll be hard to find!
Thanks for reading! And please, feel free to drop me a note to let me know you're out there! |
