Turtles...This week’s comics... and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Season Eight!!!

By emerging as number one at the box office, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, TMNT, managed to prove once again that audiences love comic book characters. Being the comic book geek that I am, of course, I took my kids to see the film.

I was surprised by how many older teens and adults, unaccompanied by children, were in the theater. But I guess, with the nostalgia factor expanding the demographic age for this movie’s target audience, it makes sense that the Turtles have wide appeal.

I was completely elated with the engaging story, family-friendly humor and absolutely stunning CGI work. The computer animation was definitely the best work I’ve seen out of any studio, other than Disney.

I can’t wait to own it on DVD…

THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE!

Gratitude goes out to all my new enablers who continue to support my habit by purchasing my items. They include; drewp0, netrnner, mnowocin94, eagleman94, 2006sobotka, kitty-cotton, and alan_t_cruz.

HERE’S WHAT I’M BUYING THIS WEEK…

52 WEEK #47- We all knew Black Adam’s new family was doomed, didn’t we…

ACTION COMICS #847- I hate fill-in issues. This better be good.

BATMAN #664- I’ve been waiting for Grant Morrison to do another Batman story (JLA doesn’t count) ever since he did Arkham Asylum over 15 years ago. It was worth the wait, ‘cause he’s doing amazing work here!

CAPTAIN AMERICA 2ND PTG EPTING VAR #25- I couldn’t resist. I sold my copies of the first printing. So I’m buying this 2nd printing for my collection. Unless…

FABLES #59

SPAWN #166- I think this issue marks the beginning of the book's new approach (I incorrectly expected it to begin in last month’s issue 165).

STAR WARS LEGACY #10- Just started reading this series this morning. Got through issue 3… Pretty good…

SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL #4- Tim Sale is my favorite artist. AND YES, I am jumping on the Heroes bandwagon!

WIZARD MAGAZINE #187- Wizard has always been an interesting read, but lately the articles have gotten much better. And honestly… how could I not read Wizard? They’re the biggest game around for getting comic book related news.

WONDER WOMAN #6- Really? Didn’t issue 5 just come out last month? They’re gonna spoil us…

WHAT I’M SELLING…

Speaking of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles… I’m auctioning off my last copy of the TMNT Sneak Peek comic book. It ends in a few hours, so hurry-up and place your bids!

And don’t forget to check out my auction for the first issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight. Show Creator, Joss Whedon, had the awesome idea of continuing the television series in comic book format (TAKE THAT SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR)! The first issue of the comic sold out in hours- but don’t worry, I got it for you!

Check out my listings to see all my items for sale this week!

Thanks!

NBC Heroes... Wizard World... This week's comic books

Last weekend’s Wizard World Los Angeles Comic Book Convention was great fun! The highlight of the show, for me, was the Heroes panel. The writers weren’t very forthcoming with many spoilers, but it was still awesome listening to them talk about “behind the scenes” stuff, and drop vague hints about upcoming episodes.

It is amazing how popular Artist Tim Sale has become as a result of Heroes. At last year’s WW LA, getting a sketch from Tim was easy. I arrived approximately 5 minutes before Tim’s assigned signing time, I was the first person in the line, and I was able to get a quick sketch with no problem. This year, at any point, the wait for Tim was always several people deep and took 3+ HOURS- even if you just wanted a signature!!!

With everything I wanted to do at the show, I just couldn’t spend that much time in line. I guess there’s always this year’s Comic Con International: San Diego.

On a brighter note, I was one of the few attendees able to get an autograph from Heroes creator Tim Kring. He only gave autographs to three or four people before being rushed off stage after the panel ended.

I’m contemplating putting my autographed book up for sale on eBay. Take a look…

THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE!

I picked up a lot of cool stuff at Wizard World! As a result, it has been a BIG selling week for me. Thank you to all my new enablers;  tigeracex, xmen73, jeffyp-1, windyamy, scott.young, mrbeefy486, xcapthowdyx, dwayne25codn, aalene, nightmaresandfairytales, wraithvsx, azxman, and gtprinze21. You guys have helped finance my trip to LA and provided me with enough left over to feed my addiction with this week’s books!

HERE’S WHAT I’M BUYING THIS WEEK…

52 WEEK #46

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #539- o.k.- What have they got in store for us this week?

BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #4- Last time I commented on this book I was contemplating dropping the series. …What a difference an issue makes. Issue three was really good. Lex Luthor is portrayed perfectly. The billionaire rivalry between Luthor and Bruce Wayne makes him a great villain for Batman. I’m glad I kept reading.

BRAVE AND THE BOLD #2

CONAN #38- my favorite series…

DETECTIVE COMICS #830

PUNISHER PRESENTS BARRACUDA MAX #2- Ennis’ Punisher was a fun book when I read it regularly. Reading Barracuda gives me the same enjoyment without the long-term commitment of buying Ennis’ regular series.

TRANSFORMERS OFFICIAL MOVIE PREQUEL #2

WHAT I’M SELLING…

I still have quite a few items left over from my trip to LA, and I expect to be listing more items in the coming days/weeks.

Check out all my listings and please... BID FREELY!

300 & Los Angeles’ Big Comic Book Convention!!!… This week’s comics… Selling: 300, TMNT, Captain America & Heroclix…

Well, I saw 300 this past weekend and it fortunately lived up to the hype! I had a great time. Every time they showed a scene that was taken directly from a panel of the graphic novel, I caught myself smiling. My wife also enjoyed it, though she admitted that she was on-edge throughout the whole movie because of the extreme violence.

This upcoming weekend, I’m headed back to Los Angeles for the Wizard World Los Angeles Comic Book Convention. I’m bringing a bunch of books to be signed and plan to pick-up a few things for my collection and for sale (see below).

I’ve attended the Wizard World convention since its inaugural event, at the Long Beach Convention Center. And I must say, the convention was much more enjoyable in Long Beach. The Long Beach Convention Center is sooo much more attendee friendly- with numerous hotels and restaurants within walking distance and an appealing water-front location. In comparison, there are no hotels and nice restaurants within close walking distance, and the location leaves much to be desired at the Los Angeles Convention Center. My wife actually enjoyed going to the WW LA convention when it was in Long Beach. Now, I have to bribe her to attend the convention at it’s current location…

THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE!

You’ll notice I’m buying quite a few books this week. Fortunately my new enabler, gtprinze21, stumbled across my listing and purchased my Captain America #25. Thanks gtprinze21, for supporting my habit and making this week’s purchases possible.

HERE’S WHAT I’M BUYING THIS WEEK…

52 WEEK #45

BLADE #7- If the television series was as good as this comic book series, it never would have been cancelled! I love this book!

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #1- Guess what guys…? Never seen an episode of the show… But I’m curious, so I’m gonna give the comic book a try.

CIVIL WAR THE CONFESSION- O.k. Marvel, enough with the Civil War… get on with World War Hulk!!!

FABLES #58- Man, I gotta catch up with this book! I’m more than 20 issues behind!!!

FRIDAY THE 13TH #4- Scary… Scary… Scary… I’m gonna wait until after dark to read this one.

SPIDER-MAN REIGN #4 (OF 4)- Could this book be any more reminiscent of The Dark Knight Returns ?

TEEN TITANS #44

WONDER WOMAN #5- I’m a bit annoyed that the writer is sooo behind schedule that this issue- which was supposed to be a continuation of last issue- is actually a fill-in issue, written by someone else. “*Grumble!*”

HERE’S WHAT I’M SELLING…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) Comic Book- The new movie comes out next week. I loved the turtles as a kid and my kids love this new inception. It's all coming full circle...

5 Teenage Mutant Nija Turtles Movie Posters- cool posters and an awesome extra for the quick buyer!

Captain America #25 Wizard World Variant- This is the rare variant of the hottest book of the year! Don't pass it up!

Frank Miller 300 six-pin set- Here's the last of my 300 promo items for sale. The rest, I'm keeping for myself.

Wizard World Exclusive, Fin Fang Foom Heroclix- Each year, Wizkids comes out with an awesome, huge, piece for their Heroclix line. Here's your first opportunity to own this year's biggie!

Frank Miller’s 300 & Gerard Butler- Good thing I’m not the jealous type… What I’m reading this week... and NBC Heroes for sale!!!

Last Friday, my wife and I went to Los Angeles (from San Diego) to attend a taping of The Tonight Show staring Jay Leno.  One of Jay’s guests was Gerard Butler, the star of the new movie based on Frank Miller’s comic book, 300.

Seeing as I’m a huge comic book fan, attending the show seemed like a good opportunity to get my graphic novel signed. Though I was a bit hesitant to travel 150 miles (approximately) for a single autograph, my wife was more-than-willing to make the trip.

In fact, she was the one that suggested (actually it was more like, DEMADED) that we go to Los Angeles after she discovered Gerard was making an appearance.

Now, my wife LOVES the Dave Matthews Band and Lenny Kravitz, but she’s never expressed the desire to take the day off from work and go out of town to see them perform. Her infatuation with Gerard is extremely out of character. It’s absolutely hilarious how smitten she is with this guy!

Anyway… the Tonight show taping was fun, but tiring. We waited in line for over 4 hours to get in. After the show, it didn’t appear that the guests were going to sign for the audience, so we left without an autograph. Earlier this week, I read online that Gerard actually did sign some items and take pictures with the audience… Bummer L

COMIC BOOKS, COMIC BOOKS, COMIC BOOKS!!!

I’m buying quite a few new books this week. Thanks to shillo9 for the purchase and quick payment for the Spider-man newspaper collection  I posted for sale earlier this week (I'll be posting another set very soon). The money from that sale is going directly towards this week’s new comics!

Here’s what I’m buying:

52 WEEK #44- Yes! It appears Animal Man is going to survive the series!

AUTHORITY #2- Man! It’s been soooo long since the first issue. I may have to re-read it prior to reading this issue.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #25- Buy it. I won’t say why. But you’ll be sorry if you don’t.

CIVIL WAR INITIATIVE-

DARK TOWER GUNSLINGER BORN #2 – The first “adult” novel I ever completed that wasn’t forced upon me by a teacher was Thinner, by Richard Bachman- aka, Stephen King. As a result, I’m a sucker for anything King related.

DETECTIVE COMICS #829-

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #6- This book looks good and is a very enjoyable read. I wonder how long they can keep this creative team together?

LONE RANGER DIRECTORS CUT #1- The previews I’ve seen on newsarama.com seem very well done, so, I’ll give it a try.

MARVEL ZOMBIES ARMY OF DARKNESS #1- I’ve gotta find out why all the hype about these zombie stories…

MIDNIGHTER #5- The Midnighter’s looking for revenge. This should be fun.

SPAWN #165- even thought I have much contempt for Todd McFarlane because of his hostage-like hold that’s preventing Neil Gaiman from finishing Miracleman, the new direction of Spawn seems pretty interesting. …So I’ll give it a try.

STAR WARS LEGACY #9- o.k., I’ve got enough issues put aside. This week I’m reading the whole series.

SUPERMAN BATMAN #32-

There's some really good books on the list this week!

FOR SALE!!!

Check out my listing for an awesome set of NBC Heroes pins! A complete set is becoming harder and harder to find as more fans from around the world continue to snatch up the individual buttons! Get yours now!!!
