Archive - April 2007 Avoiding spoilers...this week's comic booksPosted Apr-29-07 17:33:07 PDT Updated May-06-07 10:42:40 PDT
As I count-down the days until Friday, it’s kinda hard to avoid all the spoiler-ific reviews for Spider-man 3. Fortunately I have a pile of comic books to keep me preoccupied! Are you going to be at the theaters on Friday?
EVERY JUNKIE NEEDS AN ENABLER…
This week’s comic book fix comes courtesy of jester59388, darkjediknightmare, and schong17. Thanks to money made from sales to these awesome eBayers…
…HERE’S WHAT I’M BUYING THIS WEEK! 52 WEEK #52- Will there be a big payoff? I certainly hope so. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #3 CITY OF OTHERS #2 DETECTIVE COMICS #832 MARVEL ZOMBIES ARMY OF DARKNESS #3 MIDNIGHTER #7- I actually thought this book was just a mini-series. I’m happy to continue reading. Writer Garth Ennis can do no wrong! SPAWN #167- Issue #166, the beginning of a new direction for Spawn, was pretty interesting. Very creepy…which is good. And very bleak… which is not so good. There is no sense of hope for the characters in this book. The art and writing is very well done. As a result, I’ll give it a couple of issues to see if the story improves. If not, it’s just too depressing to continue reading. WORLD WAR HULK PROLOGUE WORLD BREAKER- I’m gonna flip through this book before purchasing it, to see how much it actually ties into the WW Hulk story…
THANKS FOR READING!!! ALL COMMENTS ARE WELCOME!
bmbcomics Ahhhh… Heroes is back!… and this week’s comics-edited…Posted Apr-26-07 14:56:20 PDT Updated Apr-26-07 14:57:52 PDT
IT’S BACK!!!
“Ahhhhh…” That sound is me, breathing easy again, after the return of Heroes!
*Spoiler Alert (highlight white space below only if you’ve already seen this week’s episode)* Poor Isaac. I’m really bummed that he’s dead. But we all saw that coming- didn’t we? But now that he is dead… should I expect a huge increase in bids for my Heroes comic book, drawn by Isaac’s real-life alter-ego, Tim Sale?
EDITED BUY LIST… I don’t know what I was looking at on Sunday, when I blogged about the books to buy this week- because a lot of the titles weren’t released.
HERE’S WHAT I ACTUALLY BOUGHT THIS WEEK… 52 WEEK #51- ASTRO CITY THE DARK AGE BOOK TWO #3 BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #5 FALLEN SON DEATH OF CAPTAIN AMERICA AVENGERS JUSTICE #11 (OF 12) PUNISHER PRESENTS BARRACUDA MAX #3 (OF 5) WIZARD MAGAZINE #188
AND JUST ADDED… JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #5- I picked-up this title after realizing its part two of the crossover with JLA.
AND JUST DROPPED… While at the comic book shop this week, I came to the realization that two of the books on my list just weren’t doing-it for me anymore. As a result, I decided to pass on ACTION COMICS and WONDER WOMAN. I began reading WW because of the creators, Alan Heinberg and Terry Dodson. Now that they aren’t on the book, I think I’ll give something else a try. Same goes with Action. I’ll pick-up that title again once Donner, Johns and Kubert return…
FRIENDLY REMINDER ABOUT YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDERMAN… You guys only have a short time to bid on my two Spider-man listings this week. Be sure to check out all my listings! And remember… all comments are welcome!
bmbcomics Heroes’ Return & This week’s comics….Posted Apr-22-07 17:44:12 PDT Updated Apr-23-07 05:43:05 PDT I don’t think I’ve ever anticipated the return of a television show more than I’m anticipating the return of Heroes. Fortunately the agony of waiting has been eased a bit by reading the online graphic novel over the past six weeks. Fans of the show, who are not following the graphic novel, are really missing out. The graphic novel stories are well written and drawn, and provide awesome, exclusive insight into the ongoing Heroes mythology. …and speaking of Heroes exclusives, check out the Comic Con International: San Diego exclusive Heroes comic book and pin I have listed. This comic book is pretty RARE. And the fact that it’s signed by Heroes creator, Tim Kring, makes it even more exclusive and desirable!
THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE! As I make my way to the comic book shop this upcoming Wednesday, I’ll be thinking of paulorsjr and worldlam. Their purchases will allow me to get the 13 (!) comics on my list this week. Also, thanks to action figure purchases by akepf5 and cert13, my admission fee to next month’s Star Wars Celebration IV, in Los Angles should be covered. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! And…Thank you!
HERE’S WHAT I’M BUYING THIS WEEK… 52 WEEK #51- The four issue miniseries, WWIII, disappointed as an unnecessary lead-up to the events that took place in last week’s issue of 52. The defeat of Black Adam was nicely executed in 52 and didn’t need the expanded coverage in WWIII. It seems like the only reason for this mini series was to facilitate DC’s rush to set-up (rather awkwardly, I might add) the events in last year’s One Year Later storyline that took place in many DC titles when 52 began. What a cop-out… It would have been nice if these stories would have unfolded naturally within the pages of 52- as readers were mislead into believed would happen. I’m feeling taken advantage of… The four issues of WWIII set me back $10.00 + tax. I want my money back… DC has just lost a reader for Countdown… ACTION COMICS #848 ALIEN PIG FARM #1 (OF 4)- I read an article about this book on comicbookresources.com. Sounds funny. We’ll see… ASTRO CITY THE DARK AGE BOOK TWO #3- This book is notorious for being late. I’m buying. But I’m not reading until Book Two is complete. BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #5 CITY OF OTHERS #2 (OF 4)- Zombies are fun!!! FALLEN SON DEATH OF CAPTAIN AMERICA AVENGERS JUSTICE #11 (OF 12) PUNISHER PRESENTS BARRACUDA MAX #3 (OF 5)- Man, what a vulgar book. I’m sooo embarrassed. I love it! SPAWN #167 TRANSFORMERS PRIME DIRECTIVE MOVIE PREQUEL #4 WIZARD MAGAZINE #188 WONDER WOMAN #8- Now, I know it’s been less than a month since I purchased #7! I guess DC is just trying to catch-up after not shipping a monthly issue for sooo long.
WHAT I’M SELLING… Currently I only have three items posted for sale. But they’re three goodies!
Be sure to check ‘em all out!
Thanks for reading, and feel free to leave any comments…. Star Wars Celebration... Spider-man Preparation... and Heroes AnticipationPosted Apr-15-07 14:01:35 PDT Updated Apr-21-07 05:27:54 PDT
Star Wars Celebration...
Next month the yearly Star War Celebration convention comes to Los Angeles.
In conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars Universe, Star Wars Celebration IV will be offering some awesome exclusives for the action figure and statue/bust collectible market. Fortunately for me, I live close enough to L.A. to attend the event. And fortunately for my fellow Star Wars fans who aren’t able to attend the event, I’ll be making a few of these collectibles available on eBay! Check out this week’s offering, and be on the lookout in upcoming weeks for more Star Wars exclusives!
Spider-man Preparation... THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE! With less than three weeks until the release of Spider-man 3, fans need to start preparing for this year’s big movie! The cool trade-paperback that auction winner, nose_goblins won should supply him with all the answers about Spider-villain, Venom! And auction winner, october7music, can impress all his friends by proudly sporting his awesome new, exclusive Spider-man 3 cap to the movie theater! Thanks for the purchases guys! Thanks also to e.binford, terelephant, tobyhall31, and akepf5. You guys are the best!
Heroes Anticipation… Fortunately the wait is almost over for NBC’s Heroes to return on Monday nights. Fans will have five all new episodes, leading up to the season finally. To celebrate the serie’s return, next week I’ll be offering my RARE, signed Heroes comic book for sale. Check out the picture below, and be on the lookout for it next Sunday!!!
I missed last Wednesday’s blog post, so… HERE’S WHAT I BOUGHT LAST WEEK…
52 WEEK #49- ALL STAR SUPERMAN #7- According to the “comic book guy” at the store where I shop, this book is on-schedule. But I tell you, this series is so good, it just doesn’t come out frequently enough! BLADE #8 DEATH DEALER #1- Can one of Frank Frazetta’s most famous artistic creations be made into a successful comic book series? FABLES #60 FRIDAY THE 13TH #5- I love this comic book! And I’m soooo upset that I forgot to get a sketch from the artist while I was at Wizard World LA last month! TEEN TITANS #45 TRANSFORMERS #3- I was only mildly interested in the cartoon as a kid, but I’m really enjoying this movie-prequel comic book. WONDER WOMAN #7
And HERE’S WHAT I’M BUYING THIS WEEK…
52 WEEK #50- CONAN #39 (MR) JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #8 SUPERMAN BATMAN #34 WORLD WAR III: PART ONE, TWO, THREE, & FOUR- I guess 52 issues for $130 just wasn’t enough. DC just had to bilk us out of $10.00 more for four additional books... It wasn’t enough that they are going straight into Countdown (another weekly series) immediately following 52… Good thing I’m made out of money- NOT!!! Careful DC, there’s only so much fans will accept…
BLOGGING ALONG… Beginning this week, I’ll be posting my weekly blog entries on Sundays, with occasional updates on Wednesdays (or Thursdays) after my weekly visit to the comic book shop. Hopefully, you’ll swing by to read my rantings!
Thanks for reading! And don't forget, YOU TOO can help support my habit! Be sure to check out all my listings! Spider-man… Transformers… this week’s comics… and Entomology & Biblical Locusts plagues!!!Posted Apr-04-07 20:45:04 PDT Updated Apr-06-07 17:46:26 PDT March’s comic book movie releases are going to be tough to beat!
Both Frank Miller’s 300 and TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) were box-office successes that more-than delivered on audiences expectations. Still, I have no doubt the May 4th release of Spider-man 3 will eclipse the combined success of both films. The first two Spider-films were hugely popular, and with comic book fans finally getting the villain they’ve been waiting for (the ultra-cool Venom), Spider-man 3 is going to be this year’s comic book film to beat! July’s Transformers film will have a lot to live up to!
THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE!
Thanks to purchases by eBay buds, kissycho4ever and dankbak, I left the comic book store with 10 new comic books this week! As always, support from the awesome eBay community is much-appreciated!
HERE’S WHAT I BOUGHT THIS WEEK…
52 WEEK #48 BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #2 DARK TOWER GUNSLINGER BORN #3 DETECTIVE COMICS #831 FALLEN SON DEATH OF CAPTAIN AMERICA WOLVERINE JACK OF FABLES #9 JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #7 MARVEL ZOMBIES ARMY OF DARKNESS #2 MIDNIGHTER #6 SUPERMAN BATMAN #33
WHAT I’M SELLING…
Spider-man 3 is almost here!!! And there’s a lot of hype surrounding spider-villain, Venom. My awesome Spider-man vs. Venom trade paperback includes the stories featuring the first appearance & origin of venom, and much more! The book is a highly desirable collectible for Spidy fans. Don’t miss your chance to get this book before it skyrockets in price! …And on Sunday (4/8), I’ll be posting for sale, the official Spider-man 3 promotional hat/cap. Here’s a picture of the hat…
Don’t forget to come back and bid!!!
Transformers may face tough competition for box-office dominance from Spider-man 3, but that doesn’t negate the fact that Transformers WILL ROCK! To get you hyped for the film, I’ve got a set of awesome promotional posters and pins for sale! The pins (obtained in 2005) are especially hard-to-find and desirable. Currently, the pins and posters offered together as a set cannot be found anywhere else on eBay!
Finally,The Reaping, staring Hilary Swank opens in theaters this week. At last year’s Comic Con International: San Diego, I obtained two promotional items for the film: a t-shirt and a petrified locust. That’s right… A PETRIFIED LOCUST. If not for the movie title inscribed on the box lid, the locust (Which is actually freeze-dried) would look as if it came straight from an entomology lab table. This is one of the most unique promotional items I’ve ever seen. Check out the listing for more info. Both the t-shirt and locust can be all yours if you’re the highest bidder!
Thanks for reading. If you have any comments, please drop me a line. And be sure to check out my listings to see all my items for sale this week! |
