Star Wars Celebration with pictures… This week’s comic books… and Heroes that are hard to find

Just got back from a couple of weeks of traveling that culminated in attending…

STAR WARS CELEBRATION IV…

After today (Sunday), there is one more day of Star Wars Celebration IV in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, my Celebration experience is over. Fortunately, I can say, “I had a great time!”

There was so much to see and do! I was able to pick-up a lot of neat items (some of which, I’m offering for sale,

here) and attend some very interesting and entertaining panels.

To be honest, I was surprised at the size of the show. This event, which caters exclusively to the Star Wars Universe, easily rivals Comic Con International’s crowd of fans that celebrate numerous diverse interests. I always knew Star Wars was popular, but who knew there were so many die-hard devotees?!! I met people who had traveled from as far away as the U.K. and Kuwait!

Amazing… simply Amazing!

I wish I had attended all five days, and I was sad to leave. Next time there’s a Star Wars Celebration, I’m there from beginning to end!

Anyways… here are a few pictures from the event (sorry about the blurry ones):

Darth Talon and Darth Vadar

X-Wing pilots and ship

Star Wars Hippies

Jawas steal-off with an R2 unit!

Jaba the Hutt. "Huh...Huh...Huh!!!"

As a result of my travels, I didn’t get an opportunity to blog last week to let everyone know which comics I was purchasing. So…

HERE’S WHAT I BOUGHT…

CAPTAIN AMERICA #26- Very good story. The death of Captain America may have been a attention grabbing stunt, but I’m glad it alerted me to this wonderful book. Ed Brubaker is an awesome writer and Steve Epting (sp?) is a great artist.

STAR WARS LEGACY #12

SUPERMAN BATMAN #35

..And to get back on schedule…

HERE’S WHAT I’M BUYING THIS WEEK…

ACTION COMICS #850- Filler issue- I’ll pass. Written by Johns and Donner- I’m there!

BOYS #7- Welcome back, Boys!

HELLBOY DARKNESS CALLS #2- Is it possible that Artist Duncan Fegredo draws Hellboy just as well as Hellboy creator Mike Mignola? Check out this series to see for yourself. In my opinion, the answer is, “yes!”

JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #6- Part of the JLA crossover…

PUNISHER PRESENTS BARRACUDA MAX #4- over the top and fun as heck! Definitely not for kids.

TEEN TITANS #47- The Titans seem to be more of a hindrance to the world than a help. I’m getting tired of seeing them fight villains with a grudge against the team, as opposed to villains that are threatening the world. If the series doesn’t move away from the soap-opera storylines and back to society-saving super heroics soon, I don’t know how much longer I’m gonna stick around.

WIZARD MAGAZINE #189

THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE…

Star Wars fans with a strong desire to own some Celebration IV exclusives have flocked to my listings! Thanks go to domino0427, zaren, denbu-mabri, cuspjumper, and rgsjlotr81- not only for enabling my comic book addiction, but also for funding my Star Wars Celebration experience!

WHAT I’M SELLING…

Along with the Celebration IV items, I’ve got an awesome Heroes promotional pin set for sale! This set is extremely hard to come by! The Comic-Con pins are popular, but once fans realize the scarcity of the press-exclusive set, these pins are going to be some of the most sought after Heroes collectibles!

The listing ends in less than an hour! Hurry up and place your bid!!!

Star Wars 30th Anniversary Celebration and This week’s comics

In two weeks, the convention, Star War Celebration IV comes to Los Angeles. I can’t wait! It promises to be a lot of fun. I’m going to bring along some of my Star Wars comic books to be signed and I hope to get a few sketches. If you’re a Star Wars fan, in the Los Angeles area, this event is not to be missed! Check out the official Star Wars website for all the details.

Star Wars Celebration IV will be offering some great exclusives for the action figure and statue/bust collectible market. Fortunately for me, I live close enough to L.A. to attend the event. And fortunately for my fellow Star Wars fans who aren’t able to attend the event, I’m making a few of the exclusive collectibles available on eBay! Check out my items to see the awesome Darth Malak and Commander Gree Busts I have for sale!

THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE…

I made only one sale last week. Fortunately, it’s a small comic book buying week for me. As a result, the proceeds from that sale are enough to fund this week’s comics! Thanks x_xonethousandtearsx_x!

I saw Spider-man 3 this weekend... Free Comic Book Day...This week's comics...

SPIDER-MAN 3

…Saw Spider-man 3 this weekend …Was a little disappointed. Here’s why…

The Venom origin was lame.

It would have been a lot easier to suspend disbelief if the movie followed the lead of the Ultimate Spider-man comic book and made Venom’s origin scientific in nature (This also would have been a great way to give Professor Conners more prominence), rather than making Venom a random life-form attached to a meteorite that just coincidentally collides with Earth and lands in the park a few feet from where Peter Parker is making kissy-face with MJ.

The action didn’t “raise the bar”.

Spider-man’s fights with Doc-Ock in Spider-man 2 were awesome! Remember that train scene?!!! Well, there is no equivalent scene in part 3. Not even close…

Many of the “jokes” just weren’t funny

The one-liners by random onlookers in Manhattan slowed down the action and were REALLY corny. Even Stan Lee’s Cameo was cringe-worthy.

…I’m gonna stop there, 'cause I didn’t hate Spider-man 3, and I don’t want to pick apart the movie any more than I already have. Even with all it’s flaws, Spider-man 3 is still way better than Ghost Rider, The (first) Fantastic Four, and most other movies based on comic books.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY

Saturday was Free Comic Book Day (FCBD).  Five years ago, the comic book industry began a yearly tradition of providing free comic books on the first Saturday in May. Yesterday (Saturday) was this year’s Free Comic Book Day. Unfortunately, the comic book store I go to every week didn’t participate. As a result, I had to go to a different store to get my free books.

Because these free comics are meant to be used to attract new customers, I kinda felt bad getting them from a store I don’t normally shop at. But then again, I had never visited the shop before, and because of FCBD, I now know of another place to get comics if my regular shop doesn’t carry a particular item. So I guess the promotion actually served its purpose…

Anyway… I took my kids and nephew with me to the comic book shop. They got a lot of cool books, and it was really neat listening to them excitedly discuss the books as we drove home from the shop.

If you missed Free Comic Book Day, chances are it’s not too late, and your local retailer will still have a few free books lying around. Click on this link to find a participating store near you.

HERE’S WHAT I’M BUYING THIS WEEK…

FRIDAY THE 13TH #6- With characters running around naked and extreme graphic violence, Friday The 13th is definitely not for children or the easily offended. It is very much an “Adult” read and mirrors the R-rated antics of the films. Each month, I’m shocked at how much I get a kick out of this book!

IMMORTAL IRON FIST #5

JACK OF FABLES #10

MARVEL ZOMBIES DEAD DAYS

STAR WARS LEGACY #11- This story takes place in a future far removed from the movie series. It’s neat to see the Skywalker descendant carry on the family “legacy” (pun intended)! The book is very well written & drawn, and I highly recommend it to any Star Wars fan.

That’s it for this week… As always, thanks for reading. Feel free to post any comments…
