Archive - January 2008 I love my specialty store... and this week's comicsPosted Jan-30-08 18:01:35 PST Updated Feb-03-08 09:26:44 PST I was at my local Borders bookstore this weekend and was pleasantly surprised when I noticed a spinner-rack of comics among the magazine section. My pleasant surprise quickly turned to dread as I got closer to the rack, and noticed the horrible condition of the books. These things had been man-handled to the point that I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to bring them home. I snapped a picture of the rack with my cell phone, but the picture doesn't even come close to showing the terrible condition of these books.
Borders and the other big chain book stores should stick to selling graphic novels and leave the traditional, monthly comics to the comic book specialty stores... COMIC BOOKS I'M BUYING THIS WEEK…
ACTION COMICS #861- The current Legion story is pretty good but is going on for a bit too long. I hope it gets wrapped up in this issue or the next.
CAPTAIN AMERICA #34- Does anyone have any idea what this is about? LOL!!! JACK OF FABLES #19 STAR WARS KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC #25- Don’t usually read this series but this issue is the first part of the year-long crossover taking place in all the Dark Horse Star Wars books. BATMAN #673 WIZARD MAGAZINE #197 Y THE LAST MAN #60- THE LAST ISSUE!!! I wish I could read it today, but I’m still trying to find 11 of the back issues to complete my set. I think the last issue I read was issue #38… Does anyone have issues 43-46, and 52-58 that I can buy? SUPERPOWERS #0- It's by Alex Ross, so I have to try it...
CONAN #48- last issue was really good. Nice set-up for the battle that probably will take place in this issue.
SPIDER-MAN WITH GREAT POWER #1- read the first few pages online. Liked it. Gonna give it a try.

I mean no disrespect by posting the image above. Ledger’s death is VERY serious. However, since I use this space to discuss comic book related issues, it's only appropriate to include the most famous image of Ledger in-character, in a roll that I'm sure would have catapulted him to superstardom... What a shame... What a tragedy... I'm completely horrified...
WGA Strike buster...and this week's comic books!Posted Jan-16-08 17:00:30 PST Updated Jan-16-08 17:46:08 PST Nothing good on television? ...Reading a comic book is the perfect way to cure those WGA strike blues...
COMIC BOOKS I'M BUYING THIS WEEK…
Its a small week for me... Only four books! That probably means next week is gonna be a big one!
IMMORTAL IRON FIST #12- this book is always a solid read. The martial arts tournament going on in the current storyline reminds me of an old kung-fu movie. J.L.A. #17- I'm not sure why they've been splitting JLA into two stories per book? I hope it doesn't continue. I prefer one longer story... SPIDER-MAN(AMAZING) #547 BND- Man, Marvel is lucky they followed up "One More (CRAPPY) Day" with such a good creative team! The new Spider-man book is pretty enjoyable. UMBRELLA ACADEMY #5- I read the first couple of issues, but now I'm gonna wait 'til I have the whole series, so I can read it all in one sitting. Only one more issue to go...
Thank you silveragegallery, tionnestrife, and 3futuresharks! The year is off to a great start! Due to the awesome Miracleman #15 sale, I'm considering going to WonderCon next month!

Free comic book!!!Posted Jan-13-08 10:08:52 PST Updated Jan-14-08 02:41:25 PST I can't foresee there ever being a time when I will prefer comics on the web over tradition, hand-held, paper comic books.
With that being said, I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised earlier this week when I stumbled upon and enjoyed North Wind, a comic posted online by publisher, Boom Studios.
The comic had great story and art (check it out yourself, at the link above) but what truly sealed the deal for me was the fact the publisher seems to understand that most people HATE having to scroll to read and view an online comic panel.
If I can't see a complete panel, and I have to scroll or magnify to read a word balloon, it's just not worth it. Boom Studios took care of this problem by making the majority on the comic's panels widescreen, landscape sized. As a result the individual panels where just the right size to be seen on screen in their entirety when scrolling up and down, from one panel to the next.
All four issues of the comic is also being sold in paper format and being released in retail stores on the same day the issues are posted online. Had I not seen this comic online, I would have never picked up the book in the stores. As a result, this was a good marketing tool for attracting buyers, such as myself. And I have every intention of buying all four issues- even though I can read them online for free.
Why? ...I don't know? Call me old-fashioned, call me a traditionalist, call me anything you what, but I just have to hold a comic in my hand... At least for now. Most comic books produced up 'till this point just aren't suited for reading on a computer screen. But if more comics start being produced like North Wind, I may soon start a digital collection to rival my hardcopy collection of comic books!

FRIDAY THE 13TH BAD LAND #1 (Not for kids)- My guilty pleasure. So silly. So gory. Yet so fun… TEEN TITANS THE LOST ANNUAL- the only wholesome book on my list this week (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN doesn’t count, 'cause I don’t really want to purchase that book).
UN-MEN #6- Freaks… I just can’t look away. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #546 BND- Aarrah! I hated One More Day! And I hate that Marvel has shown such a lack of respect for fans by dismissing established character history. But I love Spider-man as a character. And I love Spider-man stories with good art. So I’ll begrudgingly give Marvel one more chance… BOYS #14 (Not for kids)- I’ve come to the realization that I must like sophomoric, juvenile humor. ‘Cause I keep telling myself, “One more d#*@ joke and I’m giving up on this book." But the last page of issue #13 was sooo funny! ...I guess I’m not as hoity-toity as I like to think I am. And to prove it, I’m actually gonna pick up… JENNA JAMESONS SHADOW HUNTER #0- My mother would be so disappointed... But I just gotta see what it's about! (I'm assuming this one isn't for kids either) Thank you to palmreader725, ifitsmattitsmine, drhslmd, glenngifford, valis00, leavemealone1170, and imeldaofoz for purchasing my last items for sale in 2007. I promise your purchases will pay for more titles such asTEEN TITANS THE LOST ANNUAL than titles such as JENNA JAMESONS SHADOW HUNTER (which only costs 25 cents, BTW).

I'd like to very briefly use this space to thank everyone who made a purchase from me in 2007!
Thanks to my buyers, last year I didn't miss a single comic book, as a result of a lack of funds! The comic book junkie got his fix each and every week! And on top of that..., my eBay profits also financed every single trip me and the family took to the movies in 2007.
It was a good year on eBay! Here's hoping that 2008 is even better!
Thanks again everyone!!! I couldn't ask for better enablers!!!
COMIC BOOKS I BOUGHT LAST WEEK…
CONAN #47- This title is ending soon. Its one of the very few titles that I own every issue of...
ACTION COMICS #860- Aarrrah!!! My comic book store was shorted a box! They won't get this 'til next week! BATMAN #672 FREDDY VS JASON VS ASH #3- funny stuff... but very gory JACK OF FABLES #18 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #545- Predictable. Very disappointing. Right up there with the Clone Saga... MARVEL ZOMBIES 2 #3- Currently my third favorite monthly from Marvel. Right behind Iron Fist and... PUNISHER #53- This book rocks! Too bad Garth Ennis is leaving soon... and too bad this was among the books my store didn't get (Dang!) WIZARD MAGAZINE #196- A lot of people knock Wizard. I enjoy it every month. But all the Top Cow coverage stinks of "Payola"
