Archive - February 2008 I'm gonna be broke after buying this week's comic books!Posted Feb-27-08 09:36:10 PST Updated Mar-02-08 05:54:03 PST "HOLY DEPLETION OF DISPOSABLE INCOME, BATMAN!!!"
My pull-list consists of over $40 in comic books this week! But, MAN! There are some really good books in the bunch...
COMIC BOOKS I'M BUYING THIS WEEK…
ACTION COMICS #862- This storyline really delivered last issue. And artist Gary Frank can do no wrong!
ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN THE BOY WONDER #9 BATMAN #674- Writer Grant Morrison really did an excellent job with Batman when he wrote JLA. His handling of the character in the Batman monthly title is a little disappointing in comparison. Nonetheless, this storyline is still interesting- with a very clever usage of Bat-mite. CAPTAIN AMERICA #35- Bucky as Cap was dang good last issue. I’ll give it another shot. FABLES #70- can't read yet. Gotta buy and catch up with the back issues... FREDDY VS JASON VS ASH #5- Friday the 13th’s Jason is the main reason I read this book. Hopefully this issue has more Jason and less Ash. JACK OF FABLES #20- ditto... (see Fables above) KICK ASS #1 (recommended read)- Lets see if writer Mark Millar is able to go one step further in his attempt to capture the idea of superheroes truly existing in our world. Considering he did a pretty good job with Ultimates, I think he’ll do alright with this book. I’ve even went out on a limb by making this book my recommended read for the week! But be forewarned, this book is not for kids. MARVEL ZOMBIES 2 #5- This title is going on a bit too long (I’m thinking four issues would’ve worked better than six). There better be a big payoff with these last two issues. RASL #1- I was a big dope and didn’t pick up Bone when it was first released. I’m not gonna make the same mistake with Jeff Smith’s next comic book project! PROJECT SUPERPOWERS #1- The "golden-age superhero awakening in the modern world" idea has been done before (Captain America) but Project Superpowers seems to have a fresh slant on the idea. Issue #0 was well written and drawn (and only cost $1.00). Lets hope #1 can keep up the momentum... STAR WARS LEGACY #20- With last issue wrapping things up with the previous story arch, I'm curious to see where things are going...
WIZARD MAGAZINE #198- Lets see if anything interesting is going on in the comic book industry... WHAT I’M SELLING…
…THANKS FOR READING! FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS & COMMENTS AND BE SURE TO COME BACK FOR MORE! Cool Zorro sketch! ...and this week's comic booksPosted Feb-24-08 09:55:50 PST COMIC BOOKS I BOUGHT ON 2/20...
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #551- Excellent art! Peter Parker finally catches a break at the Daily Bugle, but Spider-man is really gonna catch hell from the police and the superhero registration force now...
CONAN #49- only one more issue to go... IMMORTAL IRON FIST ORSON RANDALL GREEN MIST OF DEATH #1- Iron Fist is always great. Not sure why this was produced as a one-shot, instead of being part of the main title? The story adds to the current storyline in the monthly title. JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #18- very cool. As usual, Batman is the brains of the league. Good issue. And the back-up feature seems to be an interesting set-up for an upcoming storyline. SUPERMAN BATMAN #46 UMBRELLA ACADEMY APOCALYPSE SUITE #6- I've been stock-piling individual issues of this book 'til this final chapter. Now, I can finally sit down and read the whole thing! UN-MEN #7 (recommended read)- This issue is awesome and a PERFECT JUMP ON POINT FOR NEW READERS. Creepy... funny... well drawn (the cover is especially eye-catching)... "Freaks" *ahem*... freak-me-out! However... though many of the freaks in Un-Men look quite disturbing, I've really come to enjoy these characters. And although I could predict where this issue was leading, the delivery was superb. I can't wait to see where the story is going! ZORRO #1- This book delivered everything I'd hoped it would- A Zorro origin story that is familiar, but is also a fresh and compelling addition to the Zorro Legend! And the art perfectly complements the writing by expertly capturing the old-west and giving the book a feel of "days long past." With The Boys, Project Superhero, and now Zorro- I'm really impressed with publisher, Dynamite Entertainment. The company seems to have developed a knack for putting out compelling books.
THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE… Buyer, chills123, is the new owner of an awesome Dark Knight movie poster! Thanks again for the purchase... And for supporting a great cause...

FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS & COMMENTS AND BE SURE TO COME BACK FOR MORE! ...and this week's comic books!Posted Feb-13-08 07:19:02 PST Updated Feb-19-08 08:20:20 PST ...Not many books I collect are being released this week. This will give me time to catch up on some of the unread comics that've been piling up in my long box.
COMIC BOOKS I'M BUYING THIS WEEK…
(beginning with this post, I'm gonna highlight a recommended read in BOLD every week.)
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #550- Well, last issue we found out Jackpot isn't who we thought she was. Maybe we'll find out who she IS this issue.
FANTASTIC FOUR #554 (recommended read)- This issue is the first issue of the new creative team on the book. Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch are the same team responsible for the first two Ultimates (Avengers) series. THIS IS THE PERFECT JUMP ON POINT FOR NEW READERS. If you have a passing interest in superhero comic books, you should try this book.
FRIDAY THE 13TH BAD LAND #2- How did Jason get his superhuman powers and apparent invulnerability? "Could be, them woods is haunted with some baaad injun mojo!" The symmetry of the two stories taking place in this series is pretty neat.
THANKS FOR THE PURCHASE…
Only one sale since my last post... Thank you, damron04, for your support. Glad the book got to you quickly! Enjoy!
WHAT I’M SELLING… My Heath Ledger- Joker poster, charity auction is still active. All proceeds from the sale of this poster go to the Sundt Memorial Foundation's crusade against drug addiction. Check it out...
…THANKS FOR READING! FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS & COMMENTS AND BE SURE TO COME BACK FOR MORE! Bid on Heath Ledger Joker poster, and support a good charity!!!Posted Feb-07-08 13:29:25 PST Updated Feb-12-08 17:22:00 PST To honor Heath Ledger and his sure-to-be-spectacular performance, all proceeds from the sale of this poster will go to the Sundt Memorial Foundation. The Sundt Memorial Foundation's mission, "To change the hearts and minds of young people by inspiring them to make healthy choices and not use drugs" is a noble endeavor.
I feel that, in light of the announcement of Heath's “cause-of-death” being the result of an accidental prescription drug overdose, this charity is appropriate. It is extremely important that children are educated in the dangers of prescription and illegal drug abuse. And because Heath's performance as the Joker has the potential to touch millions of children who may be (acutely or vaguely) aware of the actor’s untimely death, it is important that the Sundt Memorial Foundation's message reach as many children, as possible. Heath Ledger’s death is a tragic loss. With the donation of the proceeds from this sale going to help increase children’s awareness of the potential dangers of drug usage, we can make sure his death wasn’t completely in vain. Your generous bids are appreciated... ...THANKS FOR READING! ...and this week's comic books!Posted Feb-07-08 07:18:33 PST Updated Feb-12-08 17:10:23 PST COMIC BOOKS I'M BUYING THIS WEEK... ABE SAPIEN THE DROWNING #1- This series should keep me occupied while waiting for the release of the next Hellboy movie in May.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #549- this story arc is written by Marc Guggenheim. ...I could have sworn I saw his name in the credits as a writer/creator of Eli Stone, the new series that comes on after Lost. BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #12- part 6 of a Joker origin story. Could be hot when The Dark Knight movie is released.
BOYS #15- new story arc. Probably a good jump on point. This book is always good for a laugh. Not for children. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #11 DETECTIVE COMICS #841 FABLES #69 MIDNIGHTER #16 NORTH WIND #2- I can’t believe that I completely forgot to pick up the first issue! If my comic book store has issue #1, I’ll buy this issue. STAR WARS LEGACY #19- If you love Star Wars, you'll love this series. I can’t wait to read this issue. TEEN TITANS YEAR ONE #2- The first issue was really fun. And it’s great for kids… Oh well, MINT CONDITION BE DAMNED!!! I’m gonna let my eight and nine-year-old sons read my copies! ...If I didn’t, I’d feel guilty.
