Fake gold should be outlawed from ebay.

When someone lists a piece of jewelry as being solid gold and it turns out to be plated or just fake gold, they should expect to refund the entire ebay transaction including the return shipping fees. this should be an ebay policy. Too much fake gold is going around ebay. Stricter guidelines should be made for solid gold being sold.

Ebay has no way of knowing this so it is up to the buyer to file a claim with Paypal. That is the only safe way to recoup your money. Many credit cards are no longer offering thei warranty clause and more will follow.

if it is a deliberate fake i agree- must be careful- i have even had power sellers accuse me of false listings when something is listed as plated or colored. thatis an accuracy. regarding the oyher- tiffany and co. is currently suingg ebay for the phony tiffany on ebay- case decided in oct. i read it on the news - don't knowall of it.

I purchased a large lot of vintage costume jewelry from another power seller who has 100% positive feedback. In this lot I discovered a gold bracelet that was marked 14K CH on the clasp. You can imagine my surprise. I assumed she had overlooked it. I tried to find out what the CH meant and another seller on eBay advised me it must be the manufacturers mark. I never took the bracelet to a jeweler myself but I should have. Anyway, I sold it for over $200.00. The buyer took it to a jeweler who told her it was not gold. She did not believe them until they tested it right in front of her. The buyer was very nice about it. She realized it was an honest error on my part and of course I refunded every penny, including shipping. She insisted on paying for the return postage though. I never did find out from her what the jeweler told her about the markings but I intend on taking it to a jeweler myself. I do not normally deal with fine jewelry and it really concerns me that we cannot even trust that it is is real gold when it is hallmarked at such.

I agree with you fancyitis. I've come across bangles that were marked 14k ch. Read my guide on how to spot fake gold. See if the bracelet you have fails any of my home remedy tests.

I have read your supposed guidelines for spotting "fake gold" on ebay. You are misleading alot of people by only giving them partial & omitted information regarding this subject. You quote only partial info from the Fed Trade Commission in regards to gold i.e. you keep using the word "solid" and I've checked out hundreds of listings & never see that word in relation to gold being sold or offered. Anyone can go to the official Federal Trade Commission website & read how they grade gold. Solid gold only exists in the raw form. ALL gold has other content in it for purposes of use and longevity. All jewelry that is Patented with a number and "K" behind it is graded to be just that. All jewelry that is rolled, plated or filled has been approved and judged by the FTC as having at least 10k gold in it. All Pat Pending jewelry does have 10 or 14K gold content as having been approved/judged to be authentic by the FTC. Most older jewelry pieces dating 1950s and earlier with a #k stamp are more likely to be originally of 14, 18 & higher gold karot content and is why they have worn down to show the base metal(because they are more pure & much softer in high grade gold content). Any older jewelry piece which has some green build-up on it does not mean it isn't "gold" it just may be your perfume or own body chemistry/oils that have interacted with the gold itself! I could go on about just how misleading your guide is to new, unsuspecting buyers on eBay, but I won't. Another thing why do you have a history of buying items of jewelry from sellers & then filing "not as described" using the Pay Pal system in order to try to keep the item you question as "Solid" as well as getting a full refund. We are hearing from SEVERAL Sellers about YOU in particular who say you have a history of Bait & Switch as well as Theft. Shame On YOU!!! Anyone reading your supposed "Guide" should check out YOUR Feedback history before they accept your word on any subject as truth!!!

I am new to ebay and recently bought 6 rings from sellers from Hong Kong. In the description they state diamond gemstone and 10kt gold. I did not know I had to read between the lines when bidding on ebay. I recieved my rings an brought them to a jeweler. All rings are plated and the stones are simulated. Yes, I was bothered by this because it got my hopes up and I feel they lie on the description. I also feel that I paid next to nothing on these rings and you get what you pay for. Lesson learned, don't by jewelery on ebay if your lookin for the real deal!!
