Archive - April 2008 Gradually switching to own picture hosting!!Posted Apr-30-08 04:46:43 PDT Like I haven't got enough to do!!! I have recently been looking at the various methods of making my ebay listings more cost effective and this may not seem like a lot but all the additional pictures I put into my listings add up to a tidy sum over the course of the year. It's not like I'd go up to someone and give them a couple of 4 coin gold sets for free so the way I see it, why pay more than I have to for extra pictures to be in my listings! Hence I am gradually going to be switching all my listings over to my own hosted webspace and just wanted to let all my regular buyers and new bidders know that this means some listings will look a bit different. The ones with my own hosted pics on will not have a thumbnail at the top of the listing and all pics will be the same larger size within the description. All listings will continue to have a gallery pic and as well as the cost side the other benefit is you see bigger pics of everything! This gradual changeover will not affect the high level of service we are proud to provide our buyers - might even mean more lots on if I don't have to wait for ebay to load all the pics! Thanks for reading, I'm off back to work now! Regards Jonathan Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it.
(David Starr Jordan) Rising Postage Costs - Reason & Rant!Posted Apr-11-08 10:25:48 PDT Now I know that some ebayers sell their items ridiculously cheap and charge astronomical postage on top to avoid paying the final value fees. Sometimes these items work out cheap enough for people to buy and some may say that ebay make enough money anyway, but it is in essence a little underhand - and do you really want to be dealing with those who work that way? Now I move on to the postage I charge... until Monday when Royal Mail once again increased all their prices I charged £1.50 for First Class Recorded or £4.50 for Special Delivery within the UK and £5.00 for International Signed For to anywhere overseas. Since Monday 7th April, 2008 I have now had to put up the UK prices to £2.00 for First Class Recorded and £5.00 for Special Delivery. To some people this may seem steep, it does however ONLY JUST COVER the cost of posting the goods my clients win - with all items being insured in transit. You may ask why I won't send anything out by standard mail - simply because too much of it goes missing and causes more work, less trust and more cost, usually to me. Now I know I might be going on a bit now so if you've had enough feel free to stop reading, but surely the posties all over the world are being paid to do a job, if they were doing it properly all this extra money being paid to the likes of Royal Mail for insurance and Signed For deliveries would not be necessary so we are in effect paying insurance against the staff employed by postal services being light fingered, negligent or just downright lazy. If the likes of Fed Ex or UPS were a bit cheaper to use then I would probably swap but for the time being Royal Mail still offers the cheapest option for registered and tracked mail (although the overseas tracking could be improved) so that is what the masses will require. For those amongst my previous buyers who have said the postage seems high, please try to see this issue from my point of view. I also never hide my postage charges (another underhand method some ebayers use) so they are there for all to see before you bid or purchase. As for combining postage - I will and have always allowed my buyers to have up to 6 lots shipped per postage charge (except multiple buy it nows which have the costs on the listings). That's all for now folks! Keep bidding and I'll keep sending by registered mail! Regards Jonathan |
