Mina lives in Texas where it's very warm right now. There are four other cats in her family. The reference photo for this painting was taken outside on the deck with the brick wall behind Mina and the geraniums. I thought it was too dark of a background, so I changed it to be a light, fluffy one.

I've been much more drawn to painting animals versus flowers, but I know the two make a great combination, so you'll see a lot of flowers in my paintings. Whenever possible, I try to put some kind of nature around the animals I paint.

Faith is a little kitten that lives in the Midwest on a ranch with several horses, about 15 other cats and two dogs. The cats have a lovely screened-in porch which keeps them safe from harm, as well as protects the wildlife.They have lots of cat furniture there and can come inside whenever they want to.

I love the plush raspberry-colored blanket that Faith is laying on. It looks so velvety and soft. My kitty, Carma, loves to sleep in her kitty bed shaped like a little tent. My husband was cleaning out the family room and temporarily moved her bed to the large oak bookcase in the living room. Her bed never made it back to the family room, because she found where we put it and now *loves* to cuddle up and sleep in there where it's quiet and dark when we're all watching TV in the other room. You can just see her tiny head peeking out from her bed as she sleeps.

Leia looks so happy and frisky in this painting! I added the brightly colored ball into the painting to add more color and fun! She lives with Luke, a tan Doxie, and together they make quite a duo.

My neighbor has two Doxies and they love to bark whenever Jesse, my Aussie, and I go into our backyard. With their long noses, they are able to peek through the fence between houses to say "Hi." There is a tiny, miniature Dachshund in our neighborhood, too, and I love to watch her on her walks. Her little legs seem to go a mile a minute to keep up with her owner!

Tuxedo cats Vic and Aurora are enjoying the view from their sunny window. I loved painting the different textures in this painting. I wanted to create the shiny fur on the cats, and the soft fabric of the curtain behind them, as well as the stiff wire of the fencing.

I think the shadow of the fence on the window makes a lovely pattern on the cats' fur. And the overall feeling is very lazy and warm.

I love to paint black fur. The highlights have so many colors, and black fur looks just like velvet to me.

Brolo and Keith live in Alabama and were being fostered at the time the reference photo for this painting was taken. I love the genuine feeling of devotion that comes through in this painting.

Seeing the two brothers cuddling together reminded me of having an older sibling. I was fortunate to have an older sister and I can remember several memorable events in our lives. I remember in my sister's bedroom, there was a different carpet than in the hallway. She seemed to have the most fun in her bedroom with her friends - chatting, playing games, etc. I wanted to join in, but she would have none of it. She wanted me to "stay out!" So I would stand with my toes at the edge of her carpet in the doorway, knowing I wasn't violating her rules, yet I could still listen and watch - ;-)))

Brock is one of my kitties. The evening light was just perfect for this painting, and when I came down the hall, Brock was resting on the dining room table as he loves to do. I grabbed my camera and took a quick photo.  I had my decorative painting books and pamphlets on the table at the time, and he was nestled in amongst them.

I want to paint Carma, too, but I'm waiting for just the right pose. My favorite poses of Carma are when it's late at night and she climbs into her little domed kitty bed with just her head and paws peeking out. She has enormous eyes and ears and must be part Sphynx by the shape of her head.

Gohan and Celeste are two adorable tabby kittens who love to stay close to one another. I decided to crop the photo in close so their expressions would be the highlight of the painting.

I love the way cats cuddle up to one another. My dream painting would be if my two cats would nestle together in amongst some stuffed animals. I've set my son's old stuffed animals on my bed in hopes the cats will nap there, but so far - no luck! Maybe I need to rub some catnip on them - LOL

Flor's full name is Florzinha. She lives in Brazil. I love the warmth of this painting. I was immediately drawn to her green eyes and the bright orange couch she is laying on. She did have kittens who have all found lovely homes.

My son has two more years of high school, and then he leaves for college. I couldn't help thinking about Flor and how she might wonder what her kittens are up to in their new homes. I love the fact that kids nowadays have cell phones. It makes it so much easier to touch base with them from time to time. I'm sure Flor would want to keep in touch with her kittens, too!

Lemur has lots of stripes on his tail, and I believe that's how he got his name.

I love the soft pastels in this painting - the soft purple, green, peach and blue, with the darker accents of raspberry. I think this color combination is just YUMMY! I like to vary my color combinations from very contrast-y (that is definitely a made up word) to very soft and harmonious. I think individual cats lend themselves to the different color treatments.

Maya and KuanYin are definitely two cuddling cats. If this painting looks familiar, I have painted this scene before, as an ACEO size - 3.5x2.5. It has been so popular, I decided to repaint it in a larger size. I love the new 8x10 size. It is still small and easy to collect, yet gives me even more room to paint my subjects and add little creative details.

I love the feeling of this painting. I think it is just remarkable how cuddly cats can be!

Toji is such an adorable kitten. I have several reference photos of him peeking out behind his blanket. I added the bottom border to give the painting some interest.

My kitty, Carma, LOVES to hide in a kitchen drawer while I'm making dinner. I discovered this was one way to keep her off the counter - ;-) So that is how I came up with the idea that Toji must be hiding in the drawer after hearing the two Doxies barking next door.
