Auctions

I went to a rural auction and boy I was a bit scared to bid because I couldn't understand him and I thought I may end up making a 1000.00 bid or something that wasn't worth a nickel. It was in a old steel buliding full of even older church pews with all kinds of neat things hanging from the rafters.Old christmas lights, large dolls, lights of all sorts ,old ads,cow skulls and stuffed animals of all types.Very nice folks just a bit different and I did get to rest my feet instead of standing for hours..You know how estate auctions can go..

Always adventure when your out and about in Western Michigan..

This week tripped over US Postage Stamps

This week I tripped over US Postage Stamps.Over 9000 at a sale and the woman said if I wanted postcards that I collect,I needed to also  buy stamps .Well for my small investment the stamps return nicely on Ebay. This also mean't I got to learn some new history and got to dip my big toe into the stamp collector's lingo.Such as hinged, off centered and on and on.Not only did I learn a tiny bit about stamp history, it also helped me date some of my very early postcards by the stamp alone..There is alot of time on my postcards you can't read the cancel postmark and the writer don't leave a clue of age..

Now I will be looking at stamps a whole different way...Have a good week

Tripped over any goodies lately?

Howdy~ I love to go on little adventures around my rural area..I am always tripping over something I didn't have a clue on from Antique farm equiment to records and all in-between.

I am learning all kinds of lingo and history.Like I tripped over a box of 45's records and saw a Elvis record and thought I hit the big time.I put down my $12.00 for about 30 records .I went skipping home just to find out it was only worth a nickel or two.But among those records was a diamond in the rough a rare record not Elvis but another artist. That record bought in 20 times as much as I payed for the whole box.But I had to learn about the lingo of the collector of records and I had to have my research down.I also had to learn what serious collector's where looking for in grading and how to find that info.Ebay guides where a great start and Google was wonderful on researching the artist.

Have you tripped over anything neat lately ?
