Most Recent Posts Reminiscing down memory lanePosted Jun-18-07 05:19:24 PDT Updated Jun-18-07 13:31:04 PDT Some of the items displayed for sale have been personal parts of my life and have lovely stories and memories behind them. Many are totally stupid, but to me, mean something. If you are interested, I will be pleased to share them with you. Of the older pieces, a lot have been handed down from one generation to another and now, as last of the line, finally me. They've been kept simply because we have been used to seeing and using them over the years. Some, glassware goes back even before, my Paternal Great Grandparents, who were still alive, very active, and in their 80's, when I was born. Great Grandma had chickens in the garden. So one of the treats of going to see them, every Sunday, was the freshly laid egg she gave me, as we were leaving. Once they had both died, their belongings were shared between their six Daughters and a Son. My Grandparents gave some to their own children, including my Parents, and as they are no longer alive, they've ended up with me. As with all of us, many things for sale are just a case of hoarding, or impulse buying, over the years. I'm sure you all know the pattern. One sees something they like, get it home and then it never gets used, because it wasn't needed in the first place. Then it sits unopened, in the original packing for ages, and then suddenly it appears out of the blue, and used everyday Ever so often, I rummage through my boxes, of memories. Some happy, some sad. but together, they make up the tapestry of my life Usually, they get looked at for a while, get sentimental and manage to throw away a few things. Then after an hour or so, see the mess I have made or get bored. and don't want to do anymore sorting out. At this point, everything is thrown back in, until the next time. One such memory, e.g., was a lovely outing I had with a 2nd or 3rd Cousin Esther. We went to The Prince of Wales Theatre, to see the Sooty Show. One of the supporting acts was Larry Adler. At the bottom of one of the boxes is the tiny mouth organ he threw from the stage, for the audience to catch. I can't remember what is I did naughty, when we out, but I got a terrible telling off because it, from my Grandma, who was living with us at the time. Cousin Esther , probably several times removed, must have been very upset, as she never took me out again. I couldn't have been more than 5/6 at the time. Over the years I have collected specific items. Such as several pieces of heavy Swedish limited edition glass vases and bowls from the 60's and 70's. Cloud Glass, Limited Edition Dolls and Teapots to name but a few. Now the time has now come, when I have to reclaim my home, if only for my family to know where to find specific items, already left to them and my friends, when I kick the bucket. If I don't start this now, they wont have a clue where to begin. I don't want of items of Family, or English History to get thrown away, in error Many of my possessions are being sold , to raise money for specific charities. Privately and anonymously, with no fanfares The last thing I want is that my home is in such a mess, everything ends up to be the rich picking of a house clearance company, who will be laughing all the way to the bank I 'm already started to give items, which are important passing on to my family and friends, whilst I am still alive. Not necessarily of great value, but important to keep. Such as the Nazi exit papers, my Stepgrandmother had when she came here as a refugee from Vienna. Her pair of gold folding glasses, still in the original leather case where they were purchased from.. The list of possessions she was allowed to take out of Vienna, including her cookery and prayer book, and cooking thermometer. As the rest of her Family perished in the camps, her existance, as our Step Grandmother, must always be honoured and rememembered. There are other items such as these. A table I was given , by my Parent's next door neighbour's Son when his parents died. They too were European refugees, whose entire Family were wiped out. As their son is now deceased, there is nobody, to remember.them. There is an amazing story, I would happily share, about the Father. He saved the lives of thousnads of new born babies, here in the UK, during the war, when an epidemic broke out. No other person other than he knew the reason, cause, and remedy. My Grandpa's WW1 medals and an American made harmonica, which he probably swopped for something else with an American soldier, also in the same WW1. From the last comment you can gather I am no spring chicken. As far back as I can remember, I'e been described as quirky, totally eccentric and at times a trend setter. Now to the younger generations I'm very old fashioned! So please treat me gently, with the same respect, which I always, attempt to, give to people who visit this website, or purchase from me. Due to having fibromyalgia, rudeness truly brings me down and affects my health. Finally there will be a large selection of brand new items , still unopened, for sale, over the coming months. You don't have to buy anything, when visiting my eBay site. If you are ever feeling alone, low or sad just drop by and make contact. G-d Bless Martin Just Looking is PermittedPosted Jun-18-07 05:08:43 PDT Just Looking is Permitted At the rate I am going, with limited mobility, it will take me probably another 5 years or more just to type up the items I want to sell.
