Most Recent Posts I think I'm back to square onePosted Oct-09-06 16:31:10 PDT Updated Oct-09-06 16:33:16 PDT After registering on Ebay and PayPal, I couldn’t wait to bid on something, but I had no idea what interested me, at least on Ebay. I wasn’t into jewelry; just earrings and I usually bought those on a whim when the price was right. Clothing, name brand or not, was out of the question. The thought of returning something that didn’t fit sounded like a huge waste of time, not to mention frustrating. Nor was I into purses. When I had to buy a purse, I went to our local Ross Dress for Less and usually came away with at least two nice purses for less than $50. Come to think of it, I really don’t like shopping, not even for groceries.
But that didn’t deter me. I wanted to bid. I wanted to win.
I checked out plants on Ebay, but loss interest quickly. Even though I like plants and have quite a few, it’s not my hobby. When I want a plant or a pot my favorite plant/pottery store is not only within walking distance, but also cheap.
I was really getting discouraged, maybe a little desperate, too. Why couldn’t I get jazzed about something besides hot fudge Sundays and the latest best seller.
Then it hit me: Fiesta Ware! I had always liked Fiesta Ware but never did anything about it because, like I said, I don’t really like to shop. I was so delighted that I could find something on Ebay that interested me.
Let the bidding wars!
My first mistake was also my first bid. I enthusiastically (and ignorantly) bid on a green vintage Fiesta Ware pitcher. The price looked good so I bid and won. Yesss! But! I didn’t look at where it was coming from or the price of postage. I ended up paying more for the postage than the pitcher and it came all the way to California from British Columbia. Ouch!
Mental note to self: always check out postage.
My next mistake was made the same day I made the bid on the pitcher. I bid on a cute vintage bowl without reading the description because I was on a roll. Unfortunately, I won that item, too. As I opened the package, the first thing I noticed was a nice sized chip on the rim, which happened to be noted in the description. There’s a sucker born every minute.
Second mental note to self: Always read the description.
My last bid on my first round on Ebay was more of a success. This was a vintage, serving dish with no chips. The price was right and postage was cheap, too. I scored, I guess. It just that I’m not really crazy about the dish.
I think I’m back to square one: What do I like?
