Most Recent Posts Presidential politics and the mediaPosted Sep-05-08 11:44:11 PDT Getting back to presidential politics and the media, now that we know who the two main candidates will be and their running mates, I just had some more thoughts to offer. How shameless is the 'mainstream' media in their promotion of Sen Obama? That Olberman, Matthews and the like even consider themselves to be 'journalists' is amazing. They ought to request the Obama campaign pay them as staffers they do so much advocacy for their 'annointed' one. The media's treatment of Gov Palin is reprehensible and the lack of outcry and even joining in the hysteria by the feminist Left shows that they are not so much about getting competent and qualified women into positions of power, but rather only those who subscribe to their extreme socialist, left-wing agenda. They only crow about one issue anymore - abortion, and whereas most of America may not necessarily be in favor of criminalizing abortion, they realize it is inherently wrong; and unlike Obama, who considers a baby a punishment, the Palin family - thankfully and rightfully, like most of America - considers a baby a blessing. Sarah Palin, Barack Obama and the Experience ?Posted Sep-04-08 13:29:49 PDT Updated Sep-04-08 17:13:15 PDT Gov Sarah Palin has MORE elective experience than Sen Obama by about three months. Gov Palin has elective experience as an executive (having served as a mayor and governor). The presidency is an executive position - neither Obama, Biden or McCain have any elective experience as an executive, though McCain did serve in an executive type position in the military. Three previous presidents had served as mayors. Four previous presidents had never before held any political office. I don't know how many had been community organizers but I imagine some were. American Idol ResultsPosted Apr-25-08 08:56:53 PDT Time for a little break from presidential voting to talk about American Idol voting. Maybe if we can't get one of them right, at least we'll get the other one right! Unfortunately, lately, American Idol voters seem to be going backwards in their quest for the best. Actually, that's partly the problem, no one really votes for the best singer on AI, they vote for the one they like the most. Sadly, some vote for president this way, too! Here's how I think the Top Ten should have been sorted out: 10. -- Brooke White - (really, why is she still there? - she does cry a lot - they said it worked for Hillary Clinton one time - she does it all the time - sorry, no more politics) 9. -- Jason Castro - (yes, some people like the eyes and dreds but in the end, he's not that great a singer) 8. -- Michael Johns - (Finished right about where he should have - not bad - not great) 7. -- Ramiele Malubay - (Hit some good notes but couldn't maintain it for a whole song) 6. -- Chikeze Eze - (He was improving - should've had a shot to continue to this point) 5. -- Kristy Lee Cook - (She was getting better - kinda grew on me probably because of God Bless the USA - I was disappointed she got voted off even though I didn't think she'd win) 4. -- David Cook - (Not the best voice but he knows how to use it - very versatile) 3. -- Carly Smithson - (Great voice and range but doesn't really know how to use it) 2. -- Syesha Mercado - (Solid every week, I think, and getting better) 1. -- David Archuleta - (Excellent singer but it gets boring at times - he may not win because personality counts, too - I think that's part of the reason why Jordin Sparks beat out Melinda and Lakisha last year - their voices were better but Jordin had the better combo of voice and personality) What do you think? Comments? Brett Favre RetiresPosted Mar-05-08 09:11:30 PST Number Four decided to call it quits yesterday. If you followed football - heck if you followed life, you knew Brett Favre. He showed us what it was like to see someone playing professional sports for the love of the game - and having a ton of fun doing it! His youthful exhuberance was a welcome change from the greed, crime and scandal epitomized in some of today's professional athletes. Whether it was the image of Favre running and jumping around on the field waving his helmet in the air after just having won the Super Bowl; hoisting a teammate onto his shoulders in celebration; or the emotional performance that he displayed, in maybe one of the best games ever by a quarterback, on Monday Night Football just one day after his dad passed away, Brett Favre reminded you about what was good about professional sports. He was not without his personal troubles such as an addiction to painkillers, but he admitted his problem, sought help for it and defeated it. His family brought other emotional battles to light - his wife's battle against cancer and the charitable work they have done since to combat it; their efforts to aid Hurricane Katrina victims after Favre's boyhood home was distroyed in the Hurricane's aftermath; and of course, his father's sudden passing of a heart attack at age 58 and his great MNF tribute performance. And, of course, no one can forget the record of Favre the quarterback. He retires with nearly all of the NFL quarterback records he could possibly attain. Most career passing yards - 61,655; most TD passes - 442; most completed passes - 5,377; most passes attempted - 8,758; most interceptions (they can't all be good) - 288; most victories as a starting QB - 160; and who can forget most consecutive games started at QB - 253 (275 counting playoff games)! He is a sure bet first ballot NFL Hall-of-Famer and deservedly so. He entertained us year after year and reminded us why we love sports to begin with - because it is fun! If in fact he stays retired - he will have done so on his own terms - knowing he can still excel at a professional level, as evidenced by him helping lead a young Packers' team to the verge of the Super Bowl. Packer and sports fans everywhere are undoubtedly disappointed to no longer be able to see the famed gun-slinging arm of #4 at QB, but if nothing else, he has earned his ride off into the sunset. Thanks for the memories, Brett! You will be missed. Super Tuesday is here - Ron Paul for President !Posted Feb-05-08 10:40:04 PST It's time to get back to government based on the Constitution!
