The Gift of Eternal Life

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

John 3:16-17

Some people become repulsed by the idea of eternal life because they find their lives are quite miserable.  They cannot imagine "prolonging the agony."  But eternal life is not an extension of a person's miserable, mortal life; eternal life is God's life embodied in Christ given to all believers now as a guarantee that they will live forever.  In eternal life there is no death, sickness, hate, pain, sadness, or sin.  When we don't know Christ, we make choices as though this life is all we have.  In reality, this life is just an introduction.  When we receive this new life by faith, we begin to look at things differently and evaluate all that happens from an eternal perspective.

God bless you,

This site is for buying & selling ...not preaching ...uh sorry, selling your own religous beliefs! How smug & pretentious you are assuming that your words will save others ...what an insult to those who hold different views. Should they post blogs denegrating your religion? I suppose now you'll gain solace from your belief that I will burn in Hell? ...before doing so I suggest you look deeper into the scriptures of your own belief system ....you might discover THE FACT that the concept of Heaven & Hell was only incorporated into the bible approximately 500 yrs ago ....funny that. And whilst I am now taking my turn to offer you some enlightenment: are you aware that all of the major cathedrals in Europe(including Florence Cathedral ...Brunelleschi's dome) were built & paid for out of the profits of absolvency. Absolvencies ....where the rich man got to 'wipe his soul clean' for the price of a gold ducat! This site plays host to a polyreligous community ...based on that I would suggest that you save your sermons for the church ...where they are guaranteed not to offend the sensibilities of others.

"The sensibilities of others" . . . Hmmm. Have I touched a nerve? Please, by all means, tell me more.

This is blog, nothing more. If you choose to disagree, God bless you for it. That is your right. Simply turn the page. On to the next.

Peace,

JH

The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him.

John 3:35-36

This is one of the clearest verses in all the Bible on how a person can be saved. It is simply by believing in the Son. As we read this verse, we should realize that God is speaking. He is making a promise that can never be broken. He says, clearly and distinctly, that anyone who believes in His Son has everlasting life. To accept this promise is not a leap in the dark. It is simply believing what could not possibly be false. Those who do not obey the Son of God shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on them already. From this verse we learn that our eternal destiny depends on what we do with the Son of God. If we receive Him, God gives us eternal life as a free gift. If we reject Him, we will never enjoy everlasting life, and not only so, but God's wrath already hangs over us, ready to fall at any moment.

Notice that there is nothing in this verse about keeping the law, obeying the Golden Rule, going to church, doing the best we can, or working our way to heaven.
