Los Angeles Fashion Week: Spring 2007 Collections

LA SHOW WEEK

LIFE’S A RED CARPET

There were style events all over LA, but fashion central were the  Mercedes-Benz  Fashion Week tents at Smashbox Studios.

Since this was LA and not say, NY, instead of hopping up a few stairs to enter the tents, you jump out of your car and hit the red carpet. No, really, there's an actual red carpet in front of the tent. If you're a star, you stop in front of the step-and-repeat (those boards with sponsors' names on them that you always see behind stars in photographs on "ET"). Even if you're not a celeb, you can pause and preen and have your friend take your picture.

 BABY DOLLS

We were on the lookout for Jack at daughter Jennifer Nicholson’s fashion show. But Jack was a no show. Pity. He would have liked the little pink empire dresses, black and white baby-doll frocks, insanely high platform shoes and even the black rubber panties – maybe mostly the black rubber panties.

MORPHINE & ADRENALINE

Morphine Generation proved that LA denim can be more than jeans. Snappy trapeze jackets and modified trenches.  Creative interpretations of the trench – the must-have spring piece – had an easy, punky air and knits were layered over and under distressed jackets or skinny jeans in graphic black, white and gray.

SEXY CALL ME BACK

Left a message for PMK, organizers of Justin Timberlake’s show for his William Rast collection, but never heard back from them. So, can’t tell you  about it except the NY Times said “…it was amazing really, that they were having an elaborate event for a collection of just 20-some pairs of jeans and T-shirts…”

THE DUKE’S SHAG A LAG

Everyone was giving the look on the red carpet at Randolph Duke’s book party at Shag, the hot LA nightclub. As well, they should. The new book’s called “The Look”. And those shag-a-lagging in Duke’s gorgeous designs included Virginia Madsen in sheer black and Minnie Driver in a strapless column. (OK, I’m self-promoting. I’m in the tome. Please still buy it).
