I guess its in my genesPosted May-05-07 03:10:56 PDT I have been thinking recently "How did I become so creative"? Well this brought back a flood of memories of going to my grandmothers and watching her making things. I dont have a single memory of my grandmother not doing anything. She had a sewing machine, a knitting machine, and all kinds of equipment. I would go to see my nan at least three or four times a week, and she would ask me to stretch my arms out, then measure a newly knitted item to my body. I was never short of cardigans and jumpers as a child thanks to my nan. She also crocheted, I had three lovely pancho's to go to school in when they were all the rage in the late sixties. I do however cringe at the memory of a bright luminous green crocheted dress (which at the time I loved) I guess we can all look back and cringe at something we thought was great at the time!!! My nan taught me a lot just by being with herself, she would make litte outlines on scraps of material and give me a needle and embroidery thread and show me how to embroider, she was very creative and made lots of things like sindy dolls in big ballroom dresses that where pajama cases too. there was always someone asking her to make something. She was the needlecrafter of the family and I have a lot to thank her for especially her genes.....Thanks Nan Just makes me wonder really, what will my grandson be like? will he be creative? is it a matter of whats in his genes? or is it what his nanna has taught him that will give the most joy?
