I decapatated her:(

I was not happy how the body anatomy was turning out but loved her head. I cut off the head and made a new armature, this one is steel and not twisted and rebaked a clay armeture. I don't have any pictures yet but just in case you were wondering what was happening to my fairy stone fairy, you know now:)

I ended up trashing this one guys! It was too stressful for me LOL. I am on #3 since this last entry and finishing her up. I kept worrying about the pictures.

I will try to do an entire sculpture again with pictures. Promise.

It wasn't gory either, tehe!

Onward with the photos;)

That was easy!!!

My Fairy Stone Fairy

Now you know the inspiration of this piece. She is pensive and sad as she looks at all the frozen tears she has found. As she ponders and stares into these stones, a tear runs out of her eye and into her hand. She is amazed at what her tears have created.

Where I got my idea/inspiriation

I subscribe to a new Faery Magazine. I enjoy reading the articles and learning more about this fascinating realm of fantasy.

One of the articles introduced me to the Fairy Stones, Also known as Fairy Crosses. They are common to the Appalachian, which is also where I live, btw. The stones are found from Virginia down to Georgia along the mountain ranges here. Their origin is based on Folk Lore and Cherokee Legends. One of the common aspects of their creation is that they are "frozen tears". Fairy folk lore suggests they are the tears of fairies or fairy angels when hearing of the crucifixion. Cherokee legend suggests they are tears of the Cherokee who wept over the loss of their home by English Settlers.

Regardless of their true origin, they are said to be good luck charms. They are used in jewelry and carried in pockets for the good luck they are said to bring.

These small 1" - 3" stones are specifically a Staurolite, a crystal with another crystal growing out of it. They are interesting little stones to say the least.

There are other ideas as to their origin. If you would like to learn more about them, Google: Fairy Stones
