Archive - July 2008 Star Wars 12 Back Vinyl Caped Jawa 1978Posted Jul-28-08 10:22:25 PDT Updated Jul-30-08 19:27:08 PDT Star Wars 12 Back Vinyl Caped Jawa 1978 The first Jawa released was with the Vinyl cape in 1978. Later versions had the Cloth cape. What makes the Rare Jawa with the Vinyl Cape authentic versus the regular cloth cape version? Jawa (Vinyl Cape) There are four points one must consider: 1).Cape TextureOriginal Vinyl Caped Jawas have a distinct texture on one side of the Cape. If you scrape your finger against the textured side of the Cape, it will make a faint zipping sound due to the cross-hatch pattern on the inside of the Cape. The other side is smooth. 2).Cape ColorThe color of the Cape is extremely close to that of the Jawa Action Figure itself. Many reproduction Capes have hand cut Obi-Wan Kenobi Capes which are of a darker reddish-brown color. Others have a close color as the authentic Vinyl Cape but are not of the same pliability. 3).Cape Armhole SizeThe armholes of the authentic Vinyl Capes fit tightly around the arms of the Jawa Action Figure. Many reproduction Capes have larger armholes since they were either hand cut or a handheld hole punch was used to create the holes. 4).Cape Material The material used in the creation
of authentic Vinyl Capes is very pliable. The reproduction Capes that
closely match a authentic Vinyl Cape in terms of color are very rigid
and do not fold easily like the authentic Vinyl Capes. Authentic Capes
are of the same thickness and consistency as the following action figures:
Jawa (Cloth Cape) Jawa (Vinyl Cape) Carded
Back of Carded Jawa The carded version of the Vinyl Caped Jawa in Mint condition can easily reach $5,000.00+ and is extremely rare. It falls into the category of the Ultra Rare Star Wars items such as the carded or loose Darth Vader with Red Telescoping Lightsaber, carded or loose Obi-Wan Kenobi with Blue Telescoping Lightsaber and the Rocket Firing Boba Fett prototypes that do exist. We first see the Jawas in Star Wars, Episode 4, A New Hope as they stalk R2-D2 in the desert of the planet Tatooine on his way to find Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi. This specific part of the desert is also known as the Jundland Wastes. R2-D2 is captured and carried off to the Jawa Sandcrawler. Luke Skywalker's Unclo Owen purchases C-3PO and another Droid from the Jawas. The other Droid does not get very far for part of it explodes due to a bad motivator. Luke quickly informs Uncle Owen after C-3PO suggests R2-D2 as a replacement. There is a lot of tension in the
air for both parties involved in the negotiations wish to avoid any
form of conflict. Owen Lars accepts R2-D2 and the Jawas
quickly concede. The Jawas's are well known scavengers of the planet
Tatooine. The Jawas are always ready to procure, trade, sell
both Droids and wares, etc.. to anyone with cash.
They are very
greedy indviduals and always looking out for a good deal and have
excellent abilities to bargain and haggle customers. The Jawa
Sandcrawler is a mobile junkyard on wheels of treasures or trash
depending on how one would look at the situation to the inhabitants of
Tatooine. Some of the more savvy or unscropolous traders were
responsible for selling junk that would end up back in the hands of the
very same Jawas who would then resell the items. There even was a record produced which featured the Vinyl Caped Jawa. Looking for Star Wars Toys, check out my ebay Store: darthoz's star wars toysI offer a 7 Day 100% full money back guarantee on all items (unless specified)

Star Wars Empire Strikes Back Episode V 1982 Mailaway Display
E.S.B. Mailaway Display
On the back of some of the Carded action figures during the vintage era (1979 to 1982) was a offer for the Empire Strikes Back Display which stated: "The Display Arena includes four 7" long L - shaped display stands -- each holds 14 Star Wars Action Figures -- plus four backdrops with different photographs from Star Wars and the Empire Strikes Back on each side. You can connect the display stands in many different ways to set up your own unique Display arena". This particular offer required ten (10) Proof - of - purchase seals that one had to cut off the back of the cards that held the Star Wars Action Figures. This combined with the fact that one could not buy the items in stores makes the Display Arena and uncommon item to obtain. On the front of some Star Wars item was this logo in Yellow and Blue: The Display consists of four (4) Beige L shaped interlocking bases. They are very intricate in detail. There are eight (8) interlocking tabs around the sides and fourteen (14) pegs to hold Star Wars Action Figures in place. There are four (4) cardboard backdrops with vertical factory creases which allow them to be wrapped around the corners of the bases. They are double - sided and depict the following scenes from the movies:
This Display
Arena is trully a item for the serious collector or to just relive
one's childhood memory. One can still find this item on ebay. I
recently found the four (4) cards for it on one auction for a
suprisingly low price of $1.99 and the four L shaped bases on another
for under a total of $25.00 which by the way included shipping. I obtained a very sought out after item
right here on ebay for a low total price. Looking for Star Wars Toys, check out my ebay Store:darthoz's star wars toysI offer a 7 Day 100% full money back guarantee on all items (unless specified)

Star Wars Phantom Menace Episode 1 Action Figures 1999
Anakin Skywalker & Captain Tarpals
In 1999, the Star Wars Phantom Menace - Episode 1 Action Figures continued the tradition of another series of Action Figures. Here we have two (2) carded Star Wars Action Figures. The one on the left is that of Anakin Skywalker and the one on the right is that of Captain Tarpals of the Gungan tribe from planet Naboo. Both carded Action Figures have the Comm Tech Chips on the cards. The first Comm Tech Chip Reader was available in 1999. In order to listen to the Comm Tech Chips, one had to buy a Comm Tech Reader, install a 9 volt battery, turn on the Reader and slide the chip slowly across the face of it. You can hear several of the character's lines from the movie. A very nice innovation for this toy line. There are also different Collections such as Collection 1, 2, etc... Out of the entire line of figures, there are some that are harder to obtain. For example: the cardedd Darth Sidious Holograph was available in the United States but in limited quanitities. Be aware that there are also a lot of variations that exist of this series. Some collectors are happy with just collecting one of each item. Some collectors try to collect all of the items including all of the variations and what is known as rarities and misprinted items. Tips for collecting any Star Wars line of action figures:#1). Find out how many different characters exist in the series. #2). Are you collecting them as an investment for the future? #3). Grade of the items that you want for your collection. C-10 would cost more that C-5. #4). Have a storage place for them where they won't receive a lot of traffic. #5). Star Cases for each item are a great idea but take more room. There were four Accessory Packs issued during this series as well as several Spaceships and Vehicles. Be aware of the fact that once you complete your collection, you might find out that there is an item that exists that you do not have in your collection. A classic example of this is a bidder that bought some items from me and found out that I had the Jedi Braid with Holographic Starship. This item was an exclusive available only to Australia. He decided that he just had to have it. The bidder then decided to
collect the entire Phantom Menace line. All of the boxed items that
were released. Finally, he decided to go for the variations. Last I
heard he completed his collection in the summer of 2005. I first met
him January of 2003 on ebay. So, if you do decide to collect any Star
Wars line, it might take some time and patience. These items are
available on ebay all of the time.
