Questions from buyers about lowering prices?

Recently I have received an onslaught of questions asking me to lower prices, combining shipping(when items are shipped separately). My prices are about as low as they can go without me actually "losing" money literally for selling.

My suppliers have raised their prices and I have to constantly check inventory on individual items to check the new prices, and change prices to reflect my suppliers newly raised prices.

Yet,I still get questions ,more and more it seems recently ,from prospective buyers asking me to lower prices,or combine shipping(meaning dropping the price $12 to $15 ..)which also means that I will be completing a transaction at a loss if the price for the total transaction is money out of my pocket to pay for shipping.

Of course there will be someone out there trying to say that I am trying to make money on shipping which is ludicrous. Has anyone checked the shipping prices of items lately ? Does anyone read the papers or has visited the Post Office and noticed that the prices have went up ?

Do you think that if you brought a package into the post office and asked the clerk to ship it out for free what do you think will happen?

One or Two things will happen...They will call the police,or they will call the police.

What does a seller on Ebay do when confronted with such questions?

I make sure that the shipping price is printed right on the label I always make sure that I post exact shipping or low in my auction. and I'm still getting dinged on my shipping star.

Not sure, I have not been asked that kind of question. But I have not been doing this for long either. Maybe some of the seasoned veterans have!

I blame the media in general for this. Recently I watched a show where they encouraged people to "bargain" for prices like everything was a flea market including on Ebay.News people are telling people to ask for the "lowest" deal ,because of the economy and so forth.
My prices are competitive ,and if they are not ,I do not sell a product.
I have access to lower prices on certain products, but I noticed that my access to such items as movies,cd's,etc..are not competitive ,so therefore ,I do not sell them.
Much work has been done in market research to determine the correct pricing of items that I sell. If a seller wants to lose money to create a false reading on their sales, that is their business, but that is not how I choose to operate my business.
I believe that low prices for quality products is the way to go.

Thanks linnieb123..unfortunately,some prices on some products have gone up ,to reflect my cost ..checking inventory is a daily process..and prices have gone up recently on some good selling products that I have had.
I am always looking for good deals to pass them on .

I saw that too, but they included regular RETAIL stores in their bargaining which did work with a couple of them!

As for the topic itself, I emailed a seller last night that I bought from at least 15-20 times back over a year ago and they said they had to stop selling due to the supplier raising their prices and people freaking out when they had to raise theirs. They are the only seller in ten years that I've found to have the quality product they had sold, it really is a terrible state of affairs all around!

Unfortunately ,when a supplier or manufacturer finds that their product is a good seller, the prices stays high or go higher..When they find that they have priced themselves out of the market, the prices go lower..fluctuating with demand.
It is kind of like playing the stock market. It is a gamble to purchase items that you "think" will sell well ..If you find a good product, usually what happens is the items eventually goes out of stock, newer models replace the product,or seasonal items stay high "in season"..the trick is to buy them "out of season" such as sporting goods (NFL,NBA) etc...and then release them for sale in season to try and make a profit or "move the inventory".
Electronic items are a "temporary" product..new technology always replaces old,and since Ebay has "outlawed" selling brand names such as JVC,Panasonic,Sharp etc..I use other venues to unload products such as Amazon where I am authorized to sell these brands on there, but not on here in Ebay..

I did fairly well for a while here on Ebay selling JVC,Panasonic items..but was told I could not sell them..and for 3 months I was "scolded" for selling them.
I found that Amazon with a merchant account allows me to sell those items ..but I sell other items on there as well such as Estee Lauder..another product I am not allowed to sell on Ebay..so it is Ebay's loss ..and I am not going to fret over their idiotic rules.
