Adventures in selling softwarePosted Oct-30-06 08:43:37 PST Updated Oct-30-06 08:44:24 PST It never fails! We get free software from Microsoft in exchange for particpating in usability studies - great for reselling since they are the full retail version, NIB (new in box) and completely sealed. But every time I auction one off, I have a happy problem. There is always at least one person who asks me to end the auction early so they can pay me in cash (usually a very generous amount, just below full retail.) The problem is two-fold. First, this is not kosher with the eBay way of doing things. (Ending auctions early impacts your rating as a seller.) Second, it is not exactly safe for someone (but especially a lone woman) to meet a complete stranger (even in a public place) when that person knows you carry very expensive software. That's just asking for a mugging! So beware out there, if you get an offer that is too good to be true - it usually comes with a catch. Your safety is not worth the few extra dollars you may potentially earn. Besides, I find that by selling on auction for some high-demand items, you can actually make more money!
