Regular car maintenance is critical to keeping your vehicle running efficiently and safely. There are several aftermarket companies that make filters for Porsches, however the OE manufacturers are Bosch, Mahle, Mann, Meistersatz, Hengst and Knecht. When choosing a brand, one should use filters made by Original Equipment Manufacturers. OEM companies make their filters specifically for the individual car and engine that the auto manufacturers produce. So when shopping be sure to look for a filter that meets or exceeds OE specifications.
Here is a brief description of the four filters that nearly every new car is equipped with:
· Air Filters-A vehicle’s air filter keeps dust and dirt out of fuel system, so if it’s dirty is can inhibit the flow of air to the engine which decreases gas mileage. The winter season is hard on filters, due to the road grime, salts, and other contaminants in the air.
· Oil Filters-A vehicle’s oil filter keeps dust, dirt and other engine damaging contaminants out of the lubrication system. Failure to change the oil and filter could lead to premature engine wear and tear. A good clean oil system will keep the car running cooler and more efficiently.
· Fuel Filters-A filter keeps the sediments and contaminants out of the fuel system before it reaches the engine. Many vehicle owner’s get their fuel from a wide variety of service stations. Not all service stations routinely change their pump filters. As a result, the sediments in the bottoms of their holding tanks are pumped into your car. A clogged fuel filter will inhibit the free flow of fuel, causing a number of performance related problems.
· Air Conditioning Filters- Many modern vehicles have a cabin or fresh air filter. This filter helps minimize the foul odors, dust, pollen and other contaminants from getting into the interior of the vehicle.
I hope that this brief overview of OE Filters is a good starting point for this blog. Our goal is for this blog is for it to be interactive, informative, educational and factual.
