Flying with liquids ..Continental headsets..and not allowed items

We flew before the latest Fiasco with terrorists and liquids.. here is a list (below) of whats allowable..but check for latest.

One other thing. Ebayers are selling Continental headsets for a few bucks. We traveled internationally. They were offered for free in main cabin on several flights. And they mentioned a coupon  where is you print boarding pass online (not if paper ticket) there was a free headset coupon.

We do not guarantee this..just passing along info. And if you want to bring your own better gold do so. Bring baggie to store. Their headsets do not always work or work well.

My guess is the stewardesses don't want to fuss with the sales.

You can also buy adapters to make any headset convert.

Since announcing what's allowed in passenger cabins, the TSA has clarified some of its policies, which apply to domestic flights.

Liquids or gels not allowed in passenger cabins:
— Beverages
— Shampoo
— Suntan lotion
— Creams
— Toothpaste
— Hair gel
The TSA permits:
— Baby formula, which must be presented for inspection at the checkpoint
— Prescription medicines that match the passenger's name
— Essential nonprescription medicines, such as insulin
— Food, unless it has a gel-like consistency
— Electronic items such as laptops, CD players and iPods; British Airways flights to Britain do not allow them.
British Airways PLC, the largest carrier between Britain and the United States, offers these guidelines for carry-on items.
Allowed in the cabins:
— Pocket-size wallets and pocket-size purses, such as money, credit cards and identity cards
— Travel documents essential for the journey such as passports and tickets
— Prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (for example, a diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic
— Spectacles and sunglasses, without cases
— Contact lens holders, without bottles of solution
— Female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed, including tampons, pads, towels and wipes
— Unboxed tissues and handkerchiefs
— Keys, but no electrical key fobs.
For those carrying an infant on a British Airways flight, the following are allowed:
— Baby food and milk, but the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger
— Sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, such as diapers, wipes, creams and diaper disposal bags.
Not allowed:
— Handbags
— Cosmetics, including lipstick
— All electronic items
— Newspapers (British Airways has them on board for passengers)

We did nto have a pleasant flying experience..We missed our cruise (possibly  because AITALIA hates the United States Citizens or Continental )..and simply refused to let us board the flight. Uh..they overbooked and were SELLING standy while we some with FIRST CLSSS BOARDING PASSES stood by..while others that spoke Italian were given preference. We were there in plenty of time. Other passengers only made the cruise because they went to Olympic Air and paid again for their own tickets. Aitlais just put us on a later flight..but one that was too late for the cruise. NIGHTMARE. and no they did not ask for volunteers to give up seats..

If you cruise, buy airfare from cruise line.

Continental Newark is known for NOT being the best choice. they purposely delay flights..just ask.

They also swap gates from one end of the airport to the other...ha ha ha..and  they close boarding early so you can miss flight due to ridiculous and inept security..and long lines.

We will not be flying in the near future..it was horrendous BEFORE this latest fisaco.

NO WAY. We have always liked Continental. Only noted to provide facts..nothing more.

Standard Reed Diffuser Formula on the web

There is a Standard Reed Diffuser Formula on the web. We do not recommend this formula. Use at your own risk.

To begin, use:

3 parts fragrance /essential oils to 7 parts DPGF.  Stir or shake gently in a large non-reactive container (keep separate form eating utensils). Dispense into a UV resistant cobalt or amber bottle. Fill your oil bottle 3/4 full of diffuser fragrance and insert reeds. If you find the scent is not strong enough, increase the amount of fragrance oil by one part and re-mix. Do not recommend more than 50% fragrance oil to 50% DPG. You may also mix essential oils in the same manner as fragrance oils.

Blending notes:

If you find that your mix is too thick and will not wick up your reeds, try diluting the oil with a small amount of either formulators or perfumers alcohol. They recommend using up to 10% in alcohol to make your mix more wickable.

These measurements are in parts instead of exact measurements. We do this so you can easily increase or decrease a formula to suit your current need. To increase the amount you make, change units. For a small batch, use drops/ teaspoons, for a medium use ounces. For a larger batch, use pounds.

Certain essential oils, generally citrus oils, present a clouded product when mixed with DPG. While not aesthetically pleasing, the clouding will not effect the scent or its throw.

Oils that contain the aromachemical vanillin, such as some Vanilla Bean fragrance oil, will become brown the longer they are exposed to air. This will not effect the scent or its throw.

Our Notes: This is not in the published recipe above, perfumes (recipe in another guide we wrote) mention leaving it sit for some period of time, might be two weeks. So scent works itself.

CAVEAT..we are told if you use this formula you may find reeds do not work. That was the experience of  a candle company that used a formula from some other candle company selling reeds. They were going to sell diffusers on the web and they discontinued this line after spending all that money. We do not recommend you make your own diffuser oils. You do not have the right recipe IMHO to start. Too costly to get ingredients (shipping), too hard to get perfumer's alcohol, ingredients in the formula, like DPGF, not readily found locally. Some of other missing ingredients not easy to titrate. Some ingredients will ruin your formula. Some go rancid. Need separate mixing bowls than you eat from.  Each formula needs to be blended and tested. You need different oils and essential oils to get a range of scents. What happens if you do not like?

Our  formula is proprietary and cannot be disclosed.

Please see our other blogs for our discussion on reeds.
