Festive Window decoration -spongepaint, candles, felt

Festive window decoration cheap

Sponge stars or other seasonal shapes on your window with paint! Just add a teaspoon or so of liquid dish soap to acrylic craft paint, (I like white or gold metallic) and after the holidays you can wash it off with window cleaner. Use a non-scratching dish scrubber if you come across a stubborn spot.

Drop a tea-light candle in cleaned out glass mayonnaise jars. Tie a holiday ribbon around the neck, and you have a beautiful candle with Christmas charm. You could also nestle the candle in peppermints, nuts or even sand if you wish. Try grouping several jars together for a dramatic evening. Or place the candle on a tray with colored marbles/glass stones.

We have seen tea lights added to jars of potpourri. I cannot remember the exact configuration. They likely were placed inside a glass tea light holder.

We placed the tea light in a mason jar of potpourri and had several lids, like a tulle circle and  Christmas fabric. Thus the potpourri could be enjoyed with just the tulle, all lids could be removed and it lit..the gentle heat would tend to make the potpourri smell especially if you added some refresher oil. You could make some pine scented rocks and sneak in with the potpourri. We take carpet air freshener..put it in salt/flower shakers (big metal with r without handle) and use it in our clothes drawers in a corner. We do not add anything else. THEN once scent is gone (does not last long), we reuse this carpet air freshener as flour to make scented rocks. We just add refresher oil/diffuser oil to the flour. The carpet stuff is not good for a bath –like bath salts --due to the ingredients.

Make garlands out of felt scraps. Cut miniature Christmas-themed shapes, such as stockings, holly leaves and mittens, out of felt. String together with needle and floss or strong fishing line. When you string each shape, tie a knot on both sides of the shape to hold it in its place. You can add more dimension to the shapes by cutting two of each, stuffing them lightly, then sewing the two together. (You can also glue the sides together or use one side with self stick felt.) Used dryer sheets are perfect for this kind of stuffing, or even tiny fabric scraps that are too small for other uses.

For a winter holiday scent try adding christmas scented reed diffuser. We made some using copper metallic wrap and a santa claus napkin ring...others with a poinsettia wrap, small ones painted gold with holiday ribbon.
