Siegfried & Roy A Life Journey of Fulfilling Your Dreams

I usually just talk about blogging here. But another blog I am involved with is http://www.officialifebydesign.com. My partner and I, Michael Snell, both write for that blog. And this week he posted a story that generated a lot of interest, so we are sharing it here:

Siegfried & Roy A Life Journey of Fulfilling Your Dreams

Those who dare to dream accomplish great things. Just ask internationally acclaimed illusionists Siegfried & Roy. I had the honor of working for them for about 7 years, right up until Roy’s tragic accident in 2003. They were an amazing and inspiring team with a beautiful inner spirit. Roy always said to me, "If you can dream it, you can do it!"

Their story was a rags-to-riches one, because they chose to dream. Two teenagers from a war-torn Germany who had a pocketful of dreams and little else. They reached for the stars and never set any limits on what they could achieve. They are living examples that anything is possible, if you want it bad enough and believe in yourself. Stay focused on your dreams and don’t let others knock you down.

Many of us had hopes and dreams when we were younger. We had ideas of what we wanted out of life. When we were young, we could close our eyes and anything was possible. We were full of enthusiasm! Did you ever hear a child say, "When I grow up, I want to find a job I hate, work fifty hours a week, get out of shape, have a mediocre relationship, retire, and THEN have some fun?"

What is it you’re hoping for? What would you like to see happen in your life? There are no rules for dreaming and there are no limits. "Our souls speak to us with images," Siegfried told me once. "Our heads speak to us with thoughts. You have to listen to these clues and follow your heart."

"Everything begins in the heart and mind," says Roy. "Every great achievement began in the mind of one person. They dared to dream, to believe that it was possible. Don’t let negative thinking discourage you. Dream of the possibilities for yourself, your family and for others. If you have dream that you let grow cold, reignite that dream! Fan the flames! Life is too short to let it go!"

"You must work hard and be willing to give, and give and give," says Roy. "Don’t even think of receiving – nothing less than a 100% effort will do. After your first true experience of the inner satisfaction that comes from unrelenting effort, you will notice success begins to gain momentum."

"We all have the potential to fulfill our dreams. Start seeking your dream no matter what the consequences and you are already on the road to success. In all of us there is an elusive melody, which when heard and followed will lead you to the fulfillment of your dreams."

It has been nearly three years since Roy's tragic accident during a performance of their record-breaking show "Siegfried & Roy at The Mirage." When asked, "How did he survive when doctors had no hope?" Horn smiles, "The guy upstairs wasn't ready. I was always taught to be strong, that there was nothing I couldn't overcome. You just have to be positive; you just have to believe."

"Nothing is impossible," Roy always said to me, "You must believe in yourself, believe in change, and believe in your dreams, for there is magic within all of us."

WEB 2.0

Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2004, refers to a perceived second generation of web-based services—such as social networking sites, wikis, communication tools, and folksonomies—that emphasize online collaboration and sharing among users. O'Reilly Media, in collaboration with MediaLive International, used the phrase as a title for a series of conferences, and since 2004 the term has been widely adopted.

Despite the "2.0" it does not represent an updating of any Internet or World Wide Web technical standard. Its exact meaning remains open to debate, and some technology experts, notably Tim Berners-Lee,have questioned whether the term is meaningful.

Tim O'Reilly provided a compact definition of Web 2.0 in 2006:

"Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform. Chief among those rules is this: Build applications that harness network effects to get better the more people use them."

As a consultant, I am primarily focused at present on business development and Web 2.0 strategies for clients utilizing new technologies (blogs, podcast, video podcast) and other social media networks to drive their web traffic, facilitate online communities and conversations and build a "business celebrity" web presence. We coach clients on understanding the impact of these new technologies to their business and the importance of first mover advantage and SEO discovery over their competitors.

USING KEYWORDS TO DRIVE TRAFFIC

What are the key words for your blog and/or business?

Everyone should have a few key words, that are the words people are searching for,
that will lead them to your site. Hopefully, at least one or two of those words are in
your URL. At the very least, you need to be using those words as often as possible
in the titles to your post.

Two important things to keep in mind

1. A lot of bloggers worry about whether their blogs are search engine friendly. i.e.whether they will get indexed by search engines and get the high rankings that so many bloggers boast of.

Use your primary key phrase in your blog header tags and the title of your postsIf your primary key phrase is "business blogging" make sure that the word business, or blogging, or both, appear in your blog headers as well as the title of each of your posts.

Most blogging software will take the keywords in your post title and put them into the
file name of the permalink posts it creates.

For example, if you have a blog on Blogger.com and title your post "Search Engine Optimization For Blogs", Blogger will automatically create a page with your post and name the file "search-engine-optimization-for-blogs.html" or  something similar.

Use your keywords in the anchor text of links.
Keyword in links have more importance than simple text.

Use your primary and secondary keywords in the anchor text of links when linking to other blog posts or to other pages on your main site.

Link keywords where they naturally appear in the body text, but again, don't overdo it,
or you'll end up with spammy  looking pages.

2. Get backlinks from other blogs or websites

Links pointing to your blog or posts are essential to build pagerank and make your blog rank higher in the search engine listings. Find other blogs that get great traffic and ask if they will link to you.

A lot of times, I will plug another blog, on my blog. And add them to my blogroll. Then I send them note, tell them how much I enjoy what there doing, tell them I just did a little feature on them and ask them if they would add me, to their blogroll.

Your traffic can skyrocket if high traffic sites start linking to you!

Chicago blog consultants share secrets to drive traffic

Getting good traffic to your blog doesnt just happen. It takes some time and some effort.

Submit guest posts at other blogs. Few experienced bloggers can resist the appeal of
good free content. But most new bloggers simply don’t take advantage of this, because the
first few weeks after the launch of their blog are so hectic that they don’t have time to write additional posts for someone else’s blog.

With a little planning, however, you can overcome
the time crunch and pick up some great links. Save up a half dozen good posts and submit
them to related blogs as a way to introduce yourself and your blog to their audience.
(It’s usually better to only do this when the blogger is actively seeking submissions;
you probably shouldn’t submit posts unasked-for.) Of course, link back to your own
blog in the "author’s bio" at the bottom of the post. It’s not good form to submit
the same article to multiple sites, so don’t cut corners here; instead create a good
unique post for each submission you make.

Ask friends for feedback on your site. The blogging world is largely comprised people
who consider themselves somewhat entrepreneurial, and as a result, bloggers tend to respect
(and want to help) people who are out there trying to start up their own site. By asking other bloggers to give you feedback, you put them in the role of expert. Not surprisingly, this
technique usually does provide some valuable feedback from people who have experience,
if not expertise, in running a blog. But in addition, by putting your peers in the position of
expert, you dramatically increase the chance that they will follow your launch and drop
you a link once you get off the ground. -  also, have your family
and friends leave a few comments on the site to create some activity early on.

Include tons of outbound links in your posts. As a new blogger, your target audience is other bloggers. They have the links that you need to get to the top of the search engines and to get in front of other readers. So a big key is getting other bloggers in your niche to notice you. A good
trick is to use website referrals to your advantage. Almost every blogger checks their site referrals list on a daily or weekly basis (which tells them the last page a visitor was on before they landed
on their site). They use this list both to track new links and to see who is talking about their site.
By putting a lot of outbound links in your posts to other blogs in your niche, you can start to raise your profile. When your readers click on those links your site will appear in the referrals list of the bloggers you link to. This is free marketing for you. When other bloggers see your site in their referrals list they will often visit your site and are also much more likely to return a link to you.

Chicago blog consultants share secrets

We started a great blog about 6 months ago - sharing lots of secrets and tips we have learned over the last year. It's free and easy to subscribe to, so can get all of the latest tips, as we get them!  http://www.businessbloggingtips.com   stop by and sign up!

A recent tip, and frequently read article, has to be with common mistakes that bloggers make.

While there are many terrific blogs around, there are also common but easily fixable, mistakes that bloggers tend to make.

  1. Not linking to other blogs. Always have a blogroll. If someone were interested in reading your blog, they would likely be interested in reading the other blogs you like to read. Blogging is all about community. Linking to other blogs also sends a positive message to customers because it shows that you are involved in the community. - LINK-LINK-LINK! It's all about sharing!
  2. Not having an email link or contact page. Sometimes readers might want to contact you, but not leave a comment on your blog. If you are worried about getting your email address spammed, a simple contact page can prevent that.
  3. While most bloggers give an easy and accessible way to either contact them via email or leave a comment, I noticed that some blogs do not allow the readers to leave comments. This sends a bad message to customers, because it seems like the company does not want to hear from their customers. More than anything else, blogs are communication tools.
  4. Not having an RSS feed. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it is a way for people to read a blog without always actually visiting the blog. They can view the entries through websites such as bloglines.com and feedster.com. RSS feeds are extremely important, because most people will read your blog via RSS feeds. - Savvy readers use RSS! Make it available to them!
  5. Not updating often enough. The more often you update, the more popular your blog will be. Many blog readers like to read their favorite blogs on a daily basis. - Plus, as a bonus, think of it this way; everytime you update is another chance for the search engines to find your blog. The more times you enter, the greater your chances of winning!

Blog Directories and Search Engine Lift

Did you know, you should submit your blog to as many directories as possible?  Incoming links help your site to get spidered, indexed and ranked better by search engines. Conveniently, there are many blog directories that specialize in categorizing and linking to quality blogs. You can find a comprehensive list of them at the RSSTop55. Also, your particular industry probably has blog directories and usually they are free to be listed in - sometimes you have to put a promotional link on your blog for them. BUT IT'S WORTH IT!

Submit your blog to general web directories such as DMOZ and Aviva. Links from DMOZ (The Open Directory), Yahoo! Directory, Aviva Directory and other quality general web directories provide you with what are considered "trusted links" by the search engines, a key to ranking well. Search engines value links from quality web directories because it means that your site has been checked and selected by a human being. But not all web directories are equal, and you want to be careful when submitting your site to not just throw good money(if they are charging) after bad links. Another nice thing about the top web directories is that they will send you relevant traffic, just like a search engine. Try all the free ones first!

Top 10 Ways Blogs Will Drive Your Business

These are our top reasons you would want to consider creating your own blog, sooner rather than later.

10. Blogs are one of the least expensive methods to create buzz and get the word out to the world on you, your company, and you areas of expertise. When compared to almost any other form of marketing, blogs are so reasonable to start and maintain that it is almost silly not to add the creation of one to your marketing mix. They don’t require you to learn HTML or to hire a designer or developer. They are template driven and so even the best bloggers that were recognized this year by Forbes Magazine, for example, used a templated tool that cost under $100 a year to build and maintain.

9. People doing key word searches via search engines will find your blog, not necessarily your website. Search engines index your ongoing knowledge sharing from your posts (entries). A blog should be full of activity, constantly updating with fresh information, key terms and search terms in your titles, body-text and permalinks, creating more ways for the search engine "spiders" to find your blog and lead customers and prospects to you.

8. Blogs humanize you and create an organic, powerfully evolving user experience. The personal nature of a blog helps humanize you and your organization. People who like and connect with what you have to say, your thoughts, feelings and beliefs, will want you speaking to them about your offerings on a regular basis. You can post daily or even just twice a week and still create connection with prospects and customers.

7. Blogs are an amazing tool and platform to showcase your knowledge and expertise interactively. A blog can be an incredible tool for sharing information and expertise regularly. Kathleen Goodwin, CEO of iMakeNews, says business blogs "Can offer organizations a platform where information, data, and opinions can be shared and traded among employees, customers, partners, and prospects in a way previously impossible: a two-way, open exchange."

6. Prospects are constantly searching the web for information, deals and opportunities-will they find you or your competition instead? No one listens anymore to sanitized marketing messages anymore (which most of us have on our websites). A blog allows you to grow trust and credibility with your customers and prospects by providing timely, important information that shows them why you are the one to choose over your competitors.

5. Develop yourself as the thought leader in your industry. If you know the best strategies for blogging, you will be able to grow your thought leadership exponentially. Just as with any amount of practice, the more you blog and know about blogs, the better you will be at it and, in doing so, you can become one of the top people blogging in your field. After all, if your prospects are the kind of prospects you would want—leading edge companies with fast growth that want leading edge thinking, you will find your best customers and keep them for life with tools like blogs.

4. The winners in the blogosphere will be those who host the very best content and conversations. You have to have great content and inspire conversation. A blog offers the best conversational vehicle for getting and staying connected- imperative to growing new business with your prospects and customers.

3. A blog allows you to be the producer and star of your own show-a business celebrity. This is the day and age of the business celebrity. You want to be the expert, the one people turn to for information. With today's digital technology, you can create your own combination of magazine and talk show quality messages to highlight yourself with a blog.

2. The shelf life of blog posts can remain on the web forever. Remember when the only choice you had for marketing was either to send out expensive direct mail pieces or advertise in a newspaper or magazine? What was the shelf life of those marketing pieces—a day or, at best, a month? Now the investment of good content on a blog is forever.

1. If you aren’t out there, your competitors will be. As you wait to decide what to do about blogging your competitors are out there connecting with your prospect base and growing loyalty positions for business today and tomorrow. They are also taking the time to find out what your other competitors are up to and matching or beating offerings.

Blog Consulting- how a blog can help my business

Every week, people ask me, "how can a blog help my business?

Blogging is a way to communicate to your audience on a personal, one-on-one level. The feedback that a company can receive via a blog is tremendous and invaluable. PLUS, A BLOG IS 10 times MORE LIKELY TO SHOW UP IN A SEARCH, BEFORE A WEBSITE. A BUSINESS CAN HAVE A FAR GREATER CHANCE ENDING UP ON GOOGLE’S PAGE 1 WITH THEIR BLOG, THAN WITH THEIR WEBSITE.

Business owners sometimes establish blogs alongside their existing Web sites, but blogs can also substitute for Web sites, says author and blogger Patricia Gundry. "A blog will give you a Web presence that is much more reader- and user-friendly than any ordinary Web site can be. It will also be much less expensive for you to create and maintain," she says. "It will do almost everything a regular Web site can do, and more, and one of the best things is that it can create a more personal relationship with your customer."
