Here are a few ideas I shared with someone who is having an 80's-themed Girls' Night Out.
If you can find some old 80's records, you can make bowls out of them. Here are the instructions:
You'll need:
- Vinyl records (from thrift shops or that you no longer want)
- Oven safe bowl (about 9" across the top)
- Cookie sheet
Directions:
1. Preheat oven 200 degrees F. Place Bowl upside down on the cookie sheet
place record on top of the bowl. Once oven is preheated place in the
oven for 8-10 minutes.
2. Use pot holders to remove the cookie sheet with the bowl and record (which should be slightly melted on the bowl). The record will not be very hot, but be careful with the bowl and cookie sheet...THEY WILL BE HOT!
3. Working quickly- but carefully- turn over the bowl right-side up and place the record inside, quickly shaping the record. If you need a little more time to shape it, place back into the oven for a few minutes and then try again.
4. Once you've got your shape the way you want it, let it cool for approximately 5 minutes. Then, it's ready to use!
You can use them as candy dishes or for "serving" food (use another
bowl to actually hold the food, as these are not food safe) and as
favors (small records).
It would be fun for everyone to dress up 80's but then come
to the party and do your hair and make-up together. Be sure to have
LOTS of HAIRSPRAY. You can find those banana clips galore at the thrift
shops.
You could also get old VHS tapes of 80's movies as prizes. Or what
about one of those old GIGANTIC cell phones? I've seen those plenty at
the thrift shops. Maybe even a pair of 80's sunglasses or two, jewelry,
or an 80's t-shirt from the thrift shop. You might even think about
making CDs of great 80's music you've burned.
As far as decorations go, you
can place a bunch of 80's LPs in a square (or other) pattern to make a "poster" of them.
If you can get everyone to send you a photo of them from the 80's,
that would be a fun game and decorations, too. Number them, and have
everyone guess who is who by writing them down on a sheet of paper.
Have them place their answers with their name on the paper. The one
with the most correct answers, wins a prize.
Another gamecould be to list as many 80's
phrases as you can within 1 minute, such as: grody, gag me with a
spoon, lame, whatever, and so on. You could also change this to name as many t.v. shows as
possible or songs or music groups.
