Archive - January 2007 NOT WORTH THE TIMEPosted Jan-31-07 09:54:41 PST Not Worth the Time We can not spend our time, with discontent and grief, It shows up with out warning, a sneaky time stealing theif. Overlook the irritation, looking way out far beyond, Will make our day mush brighter, wave that magic wand. Don't spend time on shouting, or arguing all the issues, Or waste more time with crying, in little paper tissues. Don't let an individual, blow out your brilliant light, The time is truly wasted, when we argue and we fight. Please ignore it or delete it, or simply leave it alone, It probably is something silly, that was simply overblown. . DO YOU REMEMBER?Posted Jan-31-07 09:28:08 PST DO YOU REMEMBER? I was listening to a radio talk show and the comment was made by the host that he vaguely remembered days when there was real service in the retail and service industries. He was 45 years old. It occured to me that people younger than 40 probably never experienced real service from others. If that is true, how can they be expected to know how to provide service as they begin their business, be it online or brick and mortar. When I was growing up and entering the work force you didn't stay in business very long without fast, friendly, efficient service. In the hardware stores, the owner or an employee met you at the door and ask you if you needed help. They then stayed with you until all your needs were met. They would in fact run off and grab something for you so you didn't have to run all over the store. In gas stations, you pulled in, two or three guys in uniforms ran (yes ran), to your car, took your request and proceeded to pump your gas, wash your windshield, headlights, taillights, check the the air in your tires, check your oil, check your transmission fluid, check your power steering fluid and battery level. They did this in the heat of summer and the cold of winter all with a smile on their face. The goal for people I do business was to make you feel like you and and you alone were their very favorite customer and that they woud do anything to make you happy. Those days for the most part are gone with the big box stores. Oh you run into some people who either come from the days of old fashioned service or were trained by someone who did, but it is more and more rare all the time. It has gotten to the point where one major company pays their customer service representatives, who take phone calls, a bonus if they keep the call under two minutes. What kind of service is this encouraging? If we want to be successful we can join the crowd and give good service, but if we want to stand out from the crowd and become VERY SUCCESSFUL, we will learn to give that service that is above and beyond what is even expected. Go out there and WOW your customers with friendly business like emails, fast shipping, and stay with them through the end of the transaction through communication in emails. Make them believe they personally are your only concern through this process and you are on your way to building repeat business that will carry you too success. Oh heck, I love ya all.) www.fiventen.com For more great service!!
IT MATTERS LITTLE...Posted Jan-30-07 08:18:36 PST IT MATTERS LITTLE WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU DO IT WELL I think I have always wanted to be successful and live a life that mattered. In the past, I looked at each job I have had as being very important. Each job had it's own special place in the world. Each job I have had, brought me a certain amount of satisfaction that I was making a small difference for others. I felt success in each position I held by feeling like I was giving something back to society. It will not matter what the future holds for me as I know that what ever I do, it will be done to the best of my ability and for the best interest of those persons receiving the benefits of my labors on the path. As far as I am concerned they are really high on my list of important people in this "crappy" world. A PILLAR OF STRENGTH ??Posted Jan-19-07 08:05:55 PST Updated Jan-19-07 08:07:39 PST
ok to cry and step back from the "daily walk on the path". My friend also told me that no one expects me to be superhuman and always happily moving forward. My friend even let me know it was a sign of courage to expose my sense of loss, frustration and tears. I don't think I have ever shared, in a public forum, a time when I was in a fog on the path, but that is where I am now. I do know that if I keep moving forward that I will eventually run out of this fog and into the sunshine once again. I am here today to let you know that I am human. I do not always have a happy face and I sometimes do see the glass as half empty. My wife expressed it well when she told me: "I sometimes get a little tired of your Polly Anna attitude." I do try to find a positive in everything in life, but can tell you that there are times when I must just keep moving forward through rough times to find myself once again geared up to face the day with a bright outlook. Thank you all for your support as I move toward the sunshine that is surely ahead on the path. 4 KEYS TO SUCCESS...Posted Jan-14-07 16:46:56 PST 4 KEYS TO SUCCESS... Wether we are selling on Ebay, making life changing decisions, or trying to acheive personal fullfilment in other areas of our life, there are four ingrediants we must use to insure that success. Goals, Desire, Plans, and Perseverance. If we leave any one of these ingredients out of the mix, we are less likely to attain the things we desire out of life. One of the common themes I see in some of the things I read is that we must have goals. Goals, both short and long term, that are objectively within our reach. A goal then becomes the basis upon which we must plan our thought process and activities. These goals must be things that we deeply hold to be valuable to our lives. They need to be things we desire so much that we are willing to do what ever it takes to attain the desired result. Having a goal and the desire is not enough to get one to completion. A plan of action must be put into place to attain the goals we desire. Would one begin to build a house with out first drawing up plans? Neither should we build our lives with out a plan in place. These plans we make must not become so ridged that they can not be altered. We must keep ourselves open to new ideas as we move toward our goals, ready to implement things into our plan that will make the goal more attainable, or the result even better. The last ingredient of perseverance is where so many times we fail. I am reminded of the story of the stone cutter. He pounded on the granite a 1000 times and on the one 1001 time the stone broke in two. Had the stone cutter quit at 999 time, he would have failed at his task. We never know how close we are to achieving our goals. One more swing of the hammer and we may break through to success. As we decide on the goals we want to achieve, we must look at the thing we desire, deep down in our souls desire. We can then make plans on the best way to achieve those goals and be open to new ways to go about our task. If we then persevere, our goal will become a reality. We just had to have our septic system here pumped out. Yea, when you live in the country you store shit (if you object to the word shit, replace it in your mind with poo poo or whatever makes you feel better.) and have it hauled away every 5 years or so. Simply put, the storage system is only so big and we need to clean it out now and then. It seems to me that life is a lot like our septic system. Things build up. The wife's "to do list" (like that is one of MY priorities), projects not started or half done (half done is my way of saying I tried but am too busy), Goals not achieved (or for that matter not even thought about in years). These things build up and block us from completing anything in our life. We become so overwhelmed with what needs to be done and what we would like to do, and then we blame it all on we are just too busy. First step to cleaning life's septic system would be to prioritize things in one's life. You can't just do this exercise in your mind. WRITE IT DOWN! Make it real by putting these important things in writting. (when you're writting, don't use the word shit as it may offend someone). Once you know in your mind what the real priorities are in your life, make a schedule. YES WRITE IT DOWN TOO!! It doesn't have to be a hard, fast, no room for spontenaity, but should be firm enough that one gets back on track soon after derailing for some immediacy that came up. (Not sure immediacy is a word, but I like it so am leaving it.) By prioritising, by writting those priorities down and by making a loose schedule we will find we are able to pump the septic system in our life and remove some of the shit (for those offended "trivial crap") that has stagnated our life. Pump your life's septic system regularly and you will find that many of the things that have built up (the honey do list included) will then take care of themselves. (with a little effort on our part.) Copywrite 2007 Toby Edmondson Any pumping of your septic system into MY BACKYARD, the river, the ditch, or someone's new beamer, will result in a real stinky relationships from that day forward. GETTING REPEAT CUSTOMERSPosted Jan-01-07 16:04:19 PST GETTING REPEAT CUSTOMERS The best customers are repeat customers. They are people who come back time and time again. Why do they come back and how can we increase return visits on a site with MILLIONS of sellers and chances are, the same items we are selling and maybe even cheaper at times? I could discuss service. I could harp on great descriptions, friendly communication, or treating the customer like they ARE your best customer, but you have heard it from me all before. I just wanted to tell you about a tool I found that may help our customers find us again when they are searching for an item that WE HAVE! It is called RECONNECT. This is actually more a BUYER'S tool rather than a sellers tool, but one we should let our customers know about. I have it downloaded on my system and have all my favorite sellers entered into it. When I begin a search on Ebay (and some of the other auction sites) an additional search is made by this tool to inform me if Ihave a favorite seller with that item listed. When I do, I look no further. I don't compare prices because I KNOW this seller will deliver!! As a buyer, I have found this to be a great tool and am now encouraging my buyers to download it and put my name along with other sellers they trust in it. Ok, enough sales pitch.. (no I do not make any money from touting this product.) IT IS FREE. Whats the catch? You will either have to GOOGLE "RECONNECT" or you can go to my ME PAGE and click on the download button near the top. Hey do some shopping while on my site or at LEAST add my to your RECONNECT when you download it. There is a lot more information on this tool at the website for this item. May the tools of internet commerce bring you riches you never before imagined. Toby Edmondson www.fiventen.com http://store.auctiva.com/fiventen A Good Day to Start...Posted Jan-01-07 06:13:56 PST A Good Day to Start First of all a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU!! And now on with the show... I have a friend who knew big changes were about to happen in her life. I suggested some weeks ago that it was time to start preparing for this change. Well the changes have occurred and now panic has set in for her. Unfortunately panic has paralyzed her into more inaction. She is asking for help, and upset that it is not coming as needed. The help that has been offered seems to be unappreciated at best. I continue to offer moral support, but do not want to enable her to continue to rely completely on others. Today is a good day to start preparing for tomorrow. I received a poem which is a sequel to "Footprints In The Sand". It seems fitting to share it today. Butt Prints In The Sand One Night I had a wondrous dream, One set of footprints there was seen, The footprints of my precious Lord, But mine were not along the shore. But Then some stranger prints appeared, And I asked the Lord, "What have we here?" Those prints are large and round and neat, "But Lord, they are too big for feet." "My child," He said in somber tones, "for miles I carried you alone. I challenged you walk in faith, But you refused and made me wait." "You disobeyed, you would not grow, The walk of faith, you would not know, So I got tired, I got fed up, And there I dropped you on your butt." "Because in life, there comes a time, When one must fight, and one must climb, When one must rise and take a stand, Or leave their butt prints in the sand." (Author Unknown) There are times in life when we are dependent on others to carry us through the difficult times. There does come a time when we MUST be willing to begin to put forth effort on our own part. It is a time when we become interdependent on others. A quality life comes from getting past the stage of life when we are totally dependent on others. Whether or not a person puts forth the effort to move forward in their life, they MUST be willing to accept ownership for where they are now. A person can not forever blame everyone around them for the disaster their life is in. There are times we must make sacrifices to survive. If we make those decisions for ourselves, we can take pride in knowing that we are making the efforts to move forward. If we wait and others have to tell us the sacrifices that are necessary, we will continue to blame others for our plight in life. Today is a good day to start. Today is the first day of the rest of our lives and the actions we take today will lay the foundation for our life tomorrow. Today is a day to begin to take steps toward an interdependent life, rather than a life of dependence on others. It is our choice, we can leave butt prints on the path or, if we start today, tomorrow we will leave footprints on the path. Copyright © 2006 Toby Edmondson All Rights Reserved | |||||||||||||||||
