I had the privilege last night to watch the TV show about Helen Keller's life. It was to say the least very inspirational for me. The first quote was in answer to a question about what she would give to have her sight. I think about how much support my relationships with friends can give and know that I can face anything, including death as long as I am not alone.
In the activities of life that keep me so busy, I sometimes forget to draw strength from my friends...if as the saying goes.."Bad association spoils useful habits." then the opposite would hold true..."Good association will refresh useful habits." I must schedule time for good association, so that I can walk in the light or dark, but continue to walk.
The second quote by Helen Keller was evident in her life. While she had support systems in place to help her, she boldly went forth and was a very successful advocate for the blind community. I must never shy away from advocating for others no matter what the barriers.
I want my life to be that daring adventure, I want to experience all that life has to offer. I also want to travel this adventure with my friends...I am hoping that they will join me on the path....Toby Edmondson
