A Matter of Focus
Yesterday I went to town to join Jane and meet some old friends who are
passing through on their retirement journeys. I had a chance to talk
briefly with another one of our subscription members and she remarked on
what sparked her day. Just for the record, it was the beauty of a flock of
geese flying in their wedge formation heading south for the winter that she
pointed to as her spark. She is one of the positive people in my circle of
associations. ( I had to say that...she is also my wife's BOSS! )
I left our little meeting feeling ever more positive that you get what
you seek in this life. I have certainly seen some examples of this in my
own life. When I bought my Dodge Pickup, silver in color...I thought it was
so unique. I now see silver colored trucks everywhere. This is an
example of a material thing, but I think this theory holds true for our
mental searches also. If we actively are looking for that one thing that
will give us an uplifted spirit, we will find it. I also can just as easily
find the things around me that can depress my spirit and darken my path. It
is a matter of focus.
What are the things in my life that make me feel good? How can I use
those things to get my day off on the right track? I, like my friend enjoy
wild life, and am lucky to live in the country between a nature trail and
the river. Taking walks with my dog is a great way to lift my spirits. A
matter of focus....I could focus on how much my knees hurt when I walk, or I
can choose to focus on the fact that I am still able to get out and enjoy
the trail at all.
Reading motivational literature is a real kick in my day. I can focus
on the inspiration, motivation and information I receive by reading, or I
can focus on how hard it is to read because of my double vision.
Our pets get their own special focus. Diogi, my Chocolate Lab
is a great companion and is very special to me, and even though he
sheds (just a little) is welcome in my house. Our house cat ( Tipper ) is
just a cat! (my wife is the cat lover here). The darn cat sheds hair
everywhere...gets on my clothes...is just disgusting! A Matter of focus?
The dog probably (OK, does) sheds more than the cat, but the feelings about
it are different because the focus is different.
Today as I go through my routines, I will look for the sparks to ignite
my fuel, but right now Cricket is waiting by the door to take me out to
refocus my lens as we will ....Keep On The Path......Toby Edmondson
P.S. We will keep on the path as long as the rabbits and raccoons are
sleeping so Diogi can keep "his" focus.Toby Edmondson
