Seeking Advice ~ Closing EBay Store Temporarily

My husband and I each have small EBay stores, but will need to close them temporarily...

This morning, my father in law passed away.  He was with his 2 sons and a hospice nurse... and he was not in any pain.  We did know that he was going to pass away soon, but hadn't gotten as far as planning what to do about the daily aspects of life.

I don't want my husband to have to deal with any of this, but I do know that both of us need to close our stores for the next 2 weeks or so. 

I don't know how to go about it though... I have live auctions with bids, things people have not paid for... and they might pay while I'm gone.

I can turn on our vacation settings to that no more items can be sold.

Am I to email buyers?  Do I put a note that says we will not be available for a period of time?  Will our accounts be in violation... I don't want us to come home to that and have to deal with it also.  Any advice is appreciated.  I have some phone calls to make, so I'm not trying to post and run... I will check back in when I can.

April, You'll need to contact, probably CALL them to let them know what is going on. Unfortunately, the previous sales might leave negative feedbacks unless YOU KNOW you got ahold of them. I have sent emails THROUGH eBay so they are IN their folders IN EBAY, and they still claim they did not get it until later when they decide to REALLY LOOK.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. Definitely contact everybody you possibly can, explain the unexpected nature of your emergency, put the store on vacation and cancel any active listings that you cannot attend to in your absence...UNLESS there is somebody you can rely on to take care of packing and shipping any closed sales. If you HAVE to cancel active listings with bids, there should be a pop up box that allows you to enter an explanation. I haven't done this in a while myself so you might want to double check. Most importantly, is family and taking care of what needs to be done. God bless.

Chase, thank you. I won't be leaving for a couple of days -- so I still have some time to send things that might be paid for. I will not make any new auction listings and will turn off the availability to purchase from either of our stores. Hopefully there will not be but a handful of people to contact before I leave.

CJ ~ Much appreciated... I'm going to do just that -- I'll leave the auctions that are current, as I won't be leaving for another few days... in the meantime, anyone who has purchased but has not paid, I'll contact them too. Before I go, I'll cancel off anything active.

My prayers will be with you and yours. We lost my husband's father just last year...hospice was a real blessing to us.
