the west coast of Scotland fulfilling an ambition to visit the place of my
ancestors, during the visit we came across a memorial. It was erected in honour of hundreds of Irish immigrants who perished in a shipwreck of the Islay coast the thing which immediately strikes you is the number of children under the age of 14 who died. The immigrants were on their way to the new world America from Northern Ireland they had set sail and a great storm blew up and drove them onto the rocks just off this spot in Islay. If you ever visit Islay I urge you to visit this spot it will put your life in perspective. |
