Most Recent Posts Cleveland / Detroit Horror Host "the Ghoul"Posted Jun-22-07 09:19:48 PDT Updated Jun-22-07 23:00:29 PDT Growing up in and around Cleveland Ohio over the past 40 years has been an interesting experience when it's come to the selection and number of horror hosts we've had on local television programming. While it wasn't the first market to have a such a thing there is a sense of awe that arises when the name Ghoulardi is mentioned. Ernie Anderson was a force that swooped onto the airwaves with a style and sense of humor that for the early 60's had never been seen before or since. His popularity was so great that city records show that the crime rate would actually drop during his broadcasts. He was only on for 3 years, but forever marked the TV landscape nationwide. Since then we've had other Hosts such as Hoolihan & Big Chuck, The Ghoul, Super Host, Big Chuck & Little John, Count Aculard, Son of Ghoul, and Frank & Drac. Some lasted, some were only a blip on the radar. The guy I grew up watching was the Ghoul. His act was an adaptation of Ghoulardi's. Sound drops and monkeying around with the films, pranks, blowing up things with firecrackers (boom-boom's as we know them), and picking on local celebrities. Ron Sweed, the man behind the beard, was a gopher for Ghoulardi during his hayday, and later a producer for Hoolihan & Big Chuck. He tried swaying Ernie Anderson back to Cleveland to reprise the role of Ghoulardi, but Ernie just wasn't interested. He told Ron he could do it, but he had to shorten the name to Ghoul. He's had 3 runs on local TV during the 70's-80's, and 2000's. The 70's was probably his best run since he was networked to 6-7 markets throughout the U.S. as far east as Boston and west to San Fransisco. In 1999, I got invited to participate on the latest show as crew artist. It was a circus, but left me with a ton of wonderful memories and made me a couple friends. I produced 200-300 pieces of art ranging from commercial bumps to props, and got to participate in a few skits. It was a shame it didn't last, but things change as they do. I hate to sell off the old keepsakes from the show, but I need the dough. The video I threw together for the sale pages you can see that 7 years time hasn't been kind to me, but I am doing better. Great Blog Responses 2 Ex Stuff SalePosted Jun-21-07 20:12:48 PDT Updated Jun-21-07 20:14:31 PDT
I went and posted the blog for the Ex Stuff Sale and totally forgot about it. When I got around to it I was delighted to find so many positive, funny, and kind responses. Thanks to everyone who was so kind as to comment and/or participate in the auction. One person asked why I kept everything after all these years. Simple...I'm a big dope. But I did make over $90 on the first auction. The 2nd one didn't run as well. Guess I should've blogged it. Anyone who's interested, I did an assortment of videos as the 1st sale progressed, and with the second one as well. You give them a gander at www.youtube.com/ghoulart . I had fun with it, and plan on doing a 3rd sale in the near future. the exgirlfriend's stuff ebay salePosted May-31-07 19:59:23 PDT I'm not a mean or vindictive guy. I had a relationship with a gal that ended badly over 3 years ago. She promised to pay me back for the last months rent on the place we shared, and I had a bunch of her stuff that got mixed in with mine during the move. After one last night together in my new digs, she drove off to "sow her wild oats" never to return. I can't say I was surprised. There were a lot of things against us. A thirteen year age difference (me being the older party), an inability to communicate like adults, and the fact she had cheated on me 3 times during the relationship. Once with the downstairs neighbor after we "broke up". We were engaged to be married, but I didn't trust or respect her. I kept dreading the approaching marriage date. Thank the Lord she was the one who announced she didn't love me anymore. I think the marriage would have killed me. Yeah, I had my hand in the relationship ending badly, I'm not a saint. I just wished we could have resolved the last of the financial issues in an adult manner. I think I've given her plenty of time to take care of this, and I'm moving on. |
