Dried or Preserved Flowers ... Which is better?

Most people have heard about the many methods of drying flowers but not as many people have heard about preserved flowers.  The processes are very different and so are the results.  There are several methods of drying flowers including the use of silica gel and freeze drying.  Dried flowers and botanicals tend to be stiff and the colors may fade some but they are very beautiful and will last a long time.  If you want an arrangement, dried flowers are a good choice because there are many options to choose from.

Preserved flowers and botanicals use a different method.  Typically, preserved flowers are immersed in a glycerin bath which allows them to retain their softness and color.  Sometimes, preserved flowers are also dyed to obtain a variety of colors in a particular flower.  Preserved flowers and botanicals will last for years and look as fresh as the day they were cut from the garden.  Preserved flowers are typically more expensive than dried and fresh flowers but the longevity and appearance are worth the cost.

Preserved flowers and botanicals do not have as many choices as dried, but there is enough available to make some lovely arrangements and wreaths.  Preserved and dried flowers also look good together so you'll often find a mixture of these materials in arrangements and wreaths.  If you're in the mood for something larger, small trees can even be preserved and look fantastic in a home with little to no maintenance!

So, which is better?  Both are fantastic.  You should choose based on the color palette you are looking for and your personal preference.

Our First Crop of Wreaths have Arrived at Giverny

Our first group of new dried and preserved floral wreaths have arrived at Giverny.  Check our auctions to see these great items.  We have a varitey of styles to suit every decor.  All of these wreaths are designed on a grapevine base for easy hanging and natural beauty.

Our Rose and Orchid wreath is the most traditional wreath we offer.  Red preserved roses and yellow orchids are nestled among preserved greenery and dried caspia.  This is a classically beautiful wreath.

If you love purple check out our purple Orchid and Misty wreath.  Green leaves outline this pretty wreath.  All of the materials in this wreath are preserved which adds softness to the material and richness to the color.

Classic flower lovers will like our Rose and Hydrangea wreath.  Freeze dried red roses are a beautiful compliment to pale pink hydrangea blossoms.

If you have a whimsical side you'll love our plume reed wreaths.  Choose from either Burgandy Plume Reed or Cream and Rust Plume Reed.  The preserved plume reeds are soft and flow around the wreath with a fun appearance.

All of these wreaths are listed in our current auctions.  We also have preserved red and green hydrangea wreaths in our store listings.
