Archive - July 2006 Seems like all I do is complain these days....Posted Jul-13-06 10:44:05 PDT Is anyone else out there who's set up for Paypal auto-pay of your eBay fees just a little bit torqued off that when they send your invoice for the 1st, it don't show up until the 4th-5th but they still pretend it's for the 1st. Then when Paypal finally gets around to paying it (on the 14th-15th, give or take), they pay all the fees that you've managed to accumulate from the 1st up until about the 10th or so. Just irks me, thats all. Excuse me while I change the duct tape on my head. To Tom and Todd and them 2 new girls ya got working for you over at FROST CUTLERY.Posted Jul-12-06 23:52:26 PDT I'm really friggin' tired of the (poorly) feigned surprise when one or the other of you offer a set with some supposedly extravagant value..."yer doin' whut?!" you know damn well that you've been offering the same damn deal all weekend long and you both (and whichever female you've got with you) know exactly what's in the deal and it aint no bargain for anybody, especially anybody trying to make a buck or two on eBay. You can knock off the "I don' never 'member sellin' this'n so low afore" and the "These knives are our best selling models when it comes to dealers re-selling them" BULLSHIT! I'm not friggin' stupid....sorry, I mean...."STOOPID". I actually like alot of your products, I use alot of your products on a regular basis and I sell alot (sort-of) of your products and have not had a single complaint about the workmanship or anything else. But I'm damn tired of being talked down to when it comes to your sales techniques so I don't know if I'll buy anymore of your stuff or not. Dumbasses FUN 'N' MONEYPosted Jul-11-06 17:47:57 PDT I like having fun.....I like having money........at least, it is my assumption that I would enjoy having money. I do like that little dinging sound that goes off when I sell something. I just wish they'd find another noise for the "Item did not sell" notice....like a foghorn, or Jim Carey shouting L-O-O-O-S-A-H! (sic) It's my blog and I'll do what I want to!Posted Jul-09-06 23:37:00 PDT Updated Jul-09-06 23:41:51 PDT
Hey, ya know what? I've got a store on eBay! A store that is, by the way, bringing in almost no money each and every month that goes by. So, with absolutely no concern for the feathers that may be ruffled by my putting the occasional store item up for your perusal, here is one of my absolute favorite items from my store. I like it so much, in fact, that it is my 2nd choice of carryin' knife and my 1st choice if I think I'll be doing any medium to heavy duty cutting with it. It's also no.1 if I'm feeling the need to have the softball buddies ooh and aaah a bit. The blade on this beauty is hollow ground to the point that a person willing to do a little fine honing can literally come up with a surgical edge, and you know how nice it is when you've got one hand full of critter and the other hand half full of critter and half full of SHARP cutting implement. The edge is what's gonna determine if you get that animal cleaned and skinned without making hamburger of your fingers at the same time. Without going too nutso with my promo, it's a good knife, it's good looking, performs well and makes the buddies ooh and aah. It's available in my store which you can easily find if you're reading this. Come on over and buy one, you'll like it, and if you like the styling but don't care for the toolwork in the blade, heck, I've got one of those too! OHMYGOSHI'MNOTTHEONLYONE!?Posted Jul-09-06 19:15:23 PDT For quite some time now (March 17, 2006 to be precise) I've been laboring under the mistaken belief that business had gone to hell and through some strange phenomena my store was the only one being affected. I've sat off to the sidelines waiting patiently for the numbers to come back up, tried the occasional "sale" or somesuch to get people to come inside at anywhere near the numbers that they had been before that fateful day in March but nothing worked. I've never been a huge volume seller, fact is, I'm basically brand new at this, opening my store in November of last year and gradually building up to the point that I was making nearly 1-2 sales a day...until...well...you know. After that fateful day sales slumped to maybe 1 per week. I still don't know what the hell happened, but at least I now know that I'm not the only one that it happened to and if it means anything to anyone else out there, I know your pain and I feel your confusion and I believe that the end is in sight because I'm slowly climbing back up, clawing and scratching my way to 2 nay 3 sales a week! Somewhere...over the rainbow.... The problems with manufactured "CUSTOM" knives.Posted Jul-08-06 02:04:00 PDT Updated Jul-09-06 00:01:10 PDT Let me introduce myself, my name is Rod, always has been, never have much cared for it (the moniker) myself. That being as it is, when I opened my little store here on ebay, I tagged it with a moniker both descriptive and perhaps a bit of a clue as to myself and what one may find inside my fine E-stablishment.ODDRODD's I feel is much more indicative and nuanced than "Rod's knife store". I sell primarily Frost brand knives as anyone who has wandered across my store has discovered (thanks to those of you have actually made purchases and repeat purchases! Every sale DOES MEAN a great deal to me and my family). This is my first attempt at retail of any kind in my 45+ year existance, it continues to teach me things and I continue to plod along building up my name ODDRODD'S and my reputation at what most days seems a snail's pace to me. Now I am quite happy with most of the product that I get from Frost Cutlery. The traditional handled true pocket knives are well made and as a matter of note, I carry the smoothbone "Mustang Trapper" in my own pocket nearly eveyday, I cut stuff with it, it takes and holds an edge just beautifully. I would be sorely disappointed to lose an everyday tool as useful as my mighty smooth bone mustang. The "Tactical" frame is the next area that I'd like to spend a brief amount of time on. Occupying this section are such blades are "The Panther", "The Delta Ranger", "The Eagle Eye, etc. , there are literally dozens of styles to choose from, They're all composite handled, and they're all worth (in my opinion) $5.95 - $12.95 problem is, folks here at eBay seem to think they're worth about $1.83 regardless of the size, regardless of the steel quality or any extras'. These are valuable working knives, even though the prices that they bring don't do them justice at all. Buy one, and your getting a bargain! These are also knives that I won't be bringing into stock anymore because regardless of the quality of the knives, it's impossible for me to make any money on them. Check them out in my store's "BARGAIN BIN" and pick up some great values for your money. The next thing I just want to say briefly has to do with the big, so-called "customs" that Frost Produces in both sword and "short sword/large bowie". Now, I'm a guy that believes the old adage: "form follows function". What I see from Frost Custums is a bunch of big knives with big blades that appear to have no use whatsoever! and if a person was to try to cut something, they'd probably end up cutting an arm off before anything else! That's why you won't see alot of those "customs" in my store on any regular basis. There are one or two that may show up in time, but only the exceptional ones. If I present a factory manufactured "custom" knife that actually lives up to the title, it will be priced accordingly, if it's just another big blade with parts cut out of it to make it look "cool" I'll probably start it out at .99 and let you guys decide what it's worth. I have extremely limited funds to devote to this project anymore, with that in mind, I'm going to concentrate on stocking the knives that I see are quality made and useful as tools: traditional pocket knives, larger full metal frame locking folding hunters with wooden or exotic type handles such as the Diemos Tactical, The Apache Series and the Ram's Horn Series to name a few, those are all quality knives priced well below their actual value. I also plan on bringing in some more fixed blade hunter/skinners when I have the opportunity. So that will be the cutlery breakdown in my store as it continues into the future. Of course I'll have the occasional "Odd or End" that I run across, but mostly cutlery is what your going to see from now on. Thanks, OddRodd
